Eric Buterbaugh EB FLORALS Nick’s Sunflower Perfume Review

EB Florals Nick's Sunflower

Eric Buterbaugh EB FLORALS is a line of perfumes created by creative director and florist, Eric Buterbaugh¹. Nick’s Sunflower is the brand’s latest offering, a collaboration with milliner Nick Fouquet. Nick’s Sunflower is a fantasy fragrance of what a sunflower could smell like, assuming that sunflowers could have a distinctive fragrance.

Nick’s Sunflower is a fruity-floral. It opens with quince and Red Delicious apples in a sea of various citrus tree blossoms. As it settles, I notice the linden which is like a white floral with lime peels. The perfume mostly wears like quince and dazzling, citrus-kissed white florals. There’s a hint of watery, green cucumber and tangerine juice. The heart is a heady, clean jasmine and orange blossom with peach fuzz. It dries down to a peppery floral musk and soft, airy amber. I love that the base went in this direction instead of something sweet and vanilla-y (which I have sniffed in other “yellow florals” before).

Like the other EB FLORALS, Nick’s Sunflower is a really, really pretty perfume – prettier than reality. This one is as a bright as a sunflower, a summer fantasy. However, I think this one would be a nice pick-me-up in the dead of winter.

Notes listed include linden, quince, lychee, narcissus, nectarine, orange blossom, tiare, jasmine, osmanthus, tuberose, muscenone (synthetic musk) and ambrox (synthetic ambergris). Launched in 2017. PERFUMER – Ilias Ermenidis

Give Nick’s Sunflower a try if you like pretty “yellow florals” or fruity-florals. Or if you like perfumes like L’Artisan La Chasse Aux Papillons, Maison Francis Kurkdjian Amyris Femme, Byredo Flowerhead, Burberry Brit Sheer, Joya Composition No.1, Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards and/or Carven Le Parfum

Projection and longevity are average (to above average because of that ambrox).

Nick’s Sunflower comes in a few sizes with 3.4 oz retailing for $295 at Eric Buterbaugh. A discovery set is also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONQuince and pretty, pretty florals. It’s a nice addition to the EB Florals line, fits with the brand’s aesthetic. It’s the sort of pretty, sunny fragrance that conveys a field of sunflowers in late summer.

So, if a sunflower could have a fragrance, what do you think it would smell like?

  1. Oh! Story time. Around five years ago I was given three Imps from BPAL. One of them was named Sunflower! The notes were “Sunflower bouquet, black amber, creeping black moss, wilted greenery, and scorched, dry stems”. It’s been discontinued for a while, but I liked it a lot. It was a kind of non-floral floral if that makes any sense. Lol.

    1. I like non-floral florals 🙂 I get what you mean. It’s like “no florals were harmed” but you get the imagery of flowers.

Now this one, is a floral for sure.
