En Voyage Café Cacao is a gourmand that is in the Souvenir de Chocolate Trio. It’s a perfume that is inspired by a the sort of decadent café mocha that Marie Antoinette would have had.
Café Cacao is as you can imagine, a chocolate perfume. Chocolate perfumes can go into a few different directions¹ and this is a sweet, creamy chocolate with some spice. When it opens it’s like an after-dinner treat of chocolate mousse and sweet, spicy pipe tobacco. There’s a hint of warmth from florals that comes across like steam off of a mug of hot chocolate. On my skin, I don’t really pick up on any coffee. This is more like a creamy hot chocolate and some sweet, spiced pipe tobacco. Wearing it is like being in an old, charming café surrounded by lively conversations in a Romance language that you may or may not understand. The dry-down is a smooth, salty and caramel-like amber and bittersweet cocoa powder.
Café Cacao may not remind me of coffee (or a mocha) but it does remind me of being in cafes sipping on warm beverages and trying not to eavesdrop on neighboring conversations.
Notes listed include vanilla powder, rose sugar, cardamom, orange peel, espresso, steamed milk, salt, dark cacao, whipped cream, soft amber, Himalayan musk and New Zealand beach-combed ambergris. Launched 2014. PERFUMER – Shelley Wallington
Give Cafe Cacao a try if you like chocolate or unisex gourmands. Or if you like perfumes like The Body Shop Chocomania, Mugler Angel Muse, La Via del Profumo Amber Chocolate, Slumberhouse Ore and/or Arquiste Anima Dulcis. Cafe Cacao is a sweet gourmand but it’s a lot more sophisticated than most designer gourmands. Even if you don’t consider yourself to have much of a sweet tooth, I could see how you could end up wearing something like this, especially if you like tobacco-centric perfumes.
Projection and longevity are above average.
The 1/2 oz EDP retails for $65 at En Voyage. A parfum concentration is also available. Samples are available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Creamy chocolate mousse and amber/salted caramel. I rarely wear scents like this but I do like this one. Like any gourmand, I’m going to need to be in the mood for it when I wear it but I see this one being something I want to wear with scarves and sweaters (and that time is quickly approaching!)
