I don’t think I know anyone that celebrates Valentine’s Day. Do you? I don’t mean to sound like a grump. It’s a weird holiday that I think only exists to sell stuff to regions that don’t really do Lunar New Year celebrations. Honestly, I only put together these gift guides because it gives me an excuse to talk about rose-scented things, champagne and other things that I like. I’m not here to diss things that give me joy. It’s winter. We need joy!
If you feel like treating yourself in the middle of February, here are my suggestions:
For Glamour
Pretty makeup picks to make us feel beautiful even if it isn’t pretty outside –
Anna Sui Loose Face Powder in Purple Lucent – The other day I became nostalgic and was thinking about one of my first “luxury” makeup purchases. It was this powder. I still have the original compact it was in because it’s Anna Sui gothic lolita cool. The product is still cool. Retails for $45 at B-Glowing.
Rituel de Fille Forbidden Lipstick in Love in Madness – Usually I’m all about vampy shades or intimidating reds but this Valentine’s I’m craving softer shades like this versatile raspberry. I have no idea why I’m craving pinks. Maybe because they’re timeless and pretty? Maybe I’m secretly a hopeless romantic? Retails for $23 at Rituel de Fille.
Milani Rose Powder Blush in Tea Rose – Winter has me all sallow and sickly looking but this cool-toned pink remedies this. It actually gives me the glow of a school girl talking to her crush. Plus, ROSES. Retails for about $8 at Target.
For Smooth Skin
Winter skin needs some extra TLC –
Lano Rose Hand Cream – If you use this, the person that’s going to be holding your hand will thank you. It’s a naturally scented rose hand cream that leaves skin soft. Plus, I love the pink retro-y packaging. Retails for $20 at Nordstrom.
Simply Scrub Chocolate Body Scrub – This stuff smells absolutely delicious. It’s difficult to not want to eat it (seriously) It’s pure chocolate that leaves the skin smooth and moisturized. Retails for $14 at Simply Scrub. Full review here.
Henné Rose Diamonds Lip Exfoliator – I love this rose macaron scented lip scrub. It leaves my lips soft (or “kissable” or to me…ready for any ‘ole crazy lip color). Retails for $24 at B-Glowing. Full review here.
PLANT Get it On Body Oil – Why be subtle? This is a Valentine’s gift guide after all. This is an organic moisturizing body oil scented with natural essences of earthy woods and ginger. It’s the perfect layering base for any of your favorite perfumes. (Try it under rose perfumes!) Retails for $38 at Plant.
Smell Wonderful
Perfumes to make your February be even more romantic –
Elizabeth & James Nirvana Rose EDP – It takes everything not to have a list of rose perfumes in a list like this. I’ve narrowed it down to one rose – one of my favorite releases of 2016. This is a tobacco-y rose in a vintage-ish red bottle. Retails for $65 at Sephora. Review here.
Vilhelm Parfumerie Fleur Burlesque EDP – This is one of those va-va-voom, over-the-top, curvaceous gardenias. I love it so. Retails for $245 at Barneys.
Xerjoff Oud Stars Mamluk EDP – I can’t believe I’m mentioning a Xerjoff perfume on EauMG, but 2017 is going to be weird like that. This is a gourmand oud that (dare I say?) is sexy. Retails for $310 at Luckyscent.
Ambiance
An excuse to burn candles –
Cire Trudon Rose Poivrée Candle – Roses and spicy pepper in a sleek black and white vessel. If my Valentine wanted to make me happy, they’d get me this (*hint* *hint*) Retails for $105 at Saks.
House of Matriarch Incense Cones in Devotion – I’m so happy to see House of Matriarch launch incense cones in some of the brand’s best-selling scents. Devotion is a blend of frankincense and myrrh. Your body is your temple. Surround it in a smoky bath of incense. Retails for $24 at House of Matriarch.
LAFCO Boudoir Candle – How many times can I slip the word “boudoir” into this gift guide? I have many LAFCO favorites and this is one of them. It’s a blend of white florals, cassis cocktails and myrrh. Plus, I love the speckled black glass vessel. Retails for $60 at Saks.
Aura Travel Candle in Blush – I haven’t met an Aura candle that I dislike so any of their scents are a great choice. However, I like the frou-frou feel of Blush, a heady floral of peony and white flowers. The travel candle retails for $14 at Aura.
Do any of these products stand out to you? I’m in one of my “stay inside and burn candles” moods so I want all the things I can set on fire. Do you have any Valentine’s plans?

I’m very interested in the Lafco candle. They are selling them were I live and I love candles.
You should go sniff it 🙂 I have received a few Lafco candles as gifts and have loved each one (Penthouse, Lake House and Pool House). They’re pricey but larger than I expected and the glass feels really heavy (and it’s handmade, hand-blown glass).
Omg I need those candles. And that incense. Totally adding these to my self-gifting list for when my husband blows it and forgets vday! ahahaha
