Here are my summer 2013 fragrance recommendations in a variety of categories and price points.
Tropical scents for the beach or the days when you wish you were at the beach
Lili Bermuda South Water EDT – This is a sheer coconut with salt and citrus. It’s like a lot like CREED Virgin Island Water but it’s note. I actually enjoy the saltiness of this one more. Unisex and wonderful. The 3.4 oz bottle retails for $65 at Lili Bermuda.
L’Artisan Parfumuer Batucada EDT – I love this lime and coconut with ozonic florals. It wears amazingly in the heat. It takes me on vacation, love it. Full review. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $100 at Beautyhabit.
Pacifica Tahitian Gardenia Solid Perfume – I had to have a beach scent on here for those that don’t like coconut. This is an affordable green tuberose/gardenia with green tea. Really excellent for the price! Full review. I highly recommend the bath and body products too. Retails for $9 at Pacifica.
The mandatory citrus…but with a twist
Charenton Macerations Christopher Street EDP – This is the longest wearing citrus that I’ve ever worn. It opens as a boozy lime and is complimented my wonderful things like clove ciggies and leather. Full reivew. The 1 oz bottle retails for $100 at Charenton Macerations.
Meshaz Osmanthuz Natural Perfume – I love osmanthus and I find that many other people to do. It’s hard not to love a sunny, naturally fruity flower. Osmanthuz is a juicy citrus peach floral. It smells like sunshine. Available here if you email.
Mojo Magique EDP – This is a new indie perfume nee in Louisiana. It’s a fresh, green fig with citrus over woods. It’s exactly how one wants to smell during a humid New Orleans summer. Full review. The 3.4 oz retails for $100 at Mojo.
Fresh, ozonic scents for hot days
MIKMOI Aldwych EDP – This is a new brand from San Francisco. I really like all of them but something about Aldwych really speaks to me. It’s a green carnation with lavender and spice. Retails for $90 at MIKMOI.
Hermes Voyage d’Hermes EDT– It’s a montage of all of the modern Hermes fragrances and that’s why it’s good. It’s clean, ozonic and woody. Full review. The 1.2 oz bottle retails for $92 at Sephora.
HEELEY Sel Marin EDP – I’ll be the first to admit that this one has grown on me. It’s this citrus salty marine fragrance that captures the scent of the sea without being too funky or smelling like laundry detergent. The 3.4 oz bottle retails for $180 at Luckyscent.
Gourmands for summer
Thierry Mugler Angel Aqua Chic 2013 EDT – I love this version of Angel for the summer. The rosewater and fruits are a nice addition. Full review. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $85 at Sephora.
i Produmi di Firenze Ambra del Nepal EDP – This is actually a sweet amber that won’t suffocate you in the summer heat. Sheer but a distinctive amber. Totally unisex. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $99 at Beautyhabit.
Mistral Wild Blackberry EDP – This is my favorite blackberry perfume. It reminds me of picking blackberries in late summer. And the price is great for this one. Full review. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $52 at Mistral.
Date Night – Masculines
Serge Lutens Chergui EDP – Yeah, this is a honeyed tobacco amber. Yeah, stuff like this is usually recommended for cool weather wear but I’m finding that I actually prefer Chergui in the heat. It reminds me of “warm sand” in the summer. Full review. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $140 at Beautyhabit.
John Varvatos Artisan Black EDT – For those that live in really warm climates, I recommend this. It has enough “umph” but won’t suffocate. It smells fresh but has some leather for an added “sexiness”. Full review. The 2.5 oz retails for $64 at Sephora.
Tom Ford Sahara Noir EDP – I think many people will sniff this frankincense perfume and think it’s more appropriate for cool weather wear. Maybe they’re right. But, they’re missing out if they aren’t wearing this in the summer too. It’s a rich incense with a natural citrus edge. A good choice for romantic summer nights. If I smelled this on a guy, I’d already jump to conclusions and assume that he has excellent taste. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $150 at Nordstrom.
Date Night – Feminines
Phoenix Botanicals Night Bloom Natural Perfume Oil – This may be my favorite natural of 2013, only time will tell. It’s a gorgeous orange blossom with resins and this amazing, high-quality vanilla. I get so many compliments on my fragrance when I’m wearing it. It’s sultry stuff. I’ve warned you 😉 Full review. The 1/4 oz bottle retails for $48 at Phoenix Botanicals.
Dior Pure Poison EDP – A radiant blend of orange blossom and white florals over a sexy musk and amber. It’s been my summer date night fragrance many a nights. The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $90 at Sephora.
Jane Booke Taken EDP – Here’s one for you ladies that dislike florals. I don’t know what is in this stuff but men go crazy for this vanilla mango. It’s sweet but not too sweet as it’s balanced by fruits and some patchouli. It’s possibly one of the best vanillas ever. I need to get a full bottle. Full review. Retails for $84 at Beautyhabit.

Thank you for reading! – And that’s an added bonus 😉
Great post. The new doo is perfection! I’m glad you are feeling better.
Thank you.
It’s good to feel better. I feel like summer has finally started for me!
Thanks so much for this awesome rundown. I just ordered the little sample set of MIKMOI parfums which includes the Aldwych and some other fab sounding ones.
I think MIKMOI is a nifty little line. I really need to spend more time with the others. I sort of got stuck on Aldwych. I find that the scents I’m not drawn to immediately, that I end up liking. I like the challenging ones.
I am brand new to all this but that makes sense to me. I particularly have my eye on their one called Vesper. Like Aldwych, I love the name.

Bond Girl 🙂
So I wore it today, Vesper. It’s very unusual…even by someone’s standards that has smelled and tried so much stuff. But, I like it. It’s unusual but wearable. The rugged leather is very prominent on me. Look forward to hearing your thoughts!
That’s great to know. The leather was what appealed to me so we shall see. I’ll let you know…..

[…] I mentioned in my Perfume Picks for Summer 2013 video, I was slow to warm up to Heeley Sel Marin. It wasn’t that I disliked it, but I […]
The MIKMOI perfumes arrived this evening! And I liked the Aldwych that you recommended, and I really liked the Ao even though I’m not usually a huge tuberose fan, but you were right about the Vesper – even though she is my favorite Bond Girl I couldn’t handle the fragrance. I put it away to try again later. Much later.

Cool! OK, so it’s Ao that I’ve yet to try. The “blue” one. I’m wearing something today so I’ve set it out for tomorrow.
What a creative list! So many perfumes I have not heard of; I would have said it was impossible. Time to order samples!
Have fun 🙂
