FINALLY! Winter is over! This winter was brutal, wasn’t it? So much snow, so many storms!
It’s starting to look and feel like spring. I’ve rotated my perfumes – bringing out the perfumes I want to wear this spring and putting away those that I wore this winter. This gave me time to access which perfumes I’ve worn the most of during this past long, dreary, miserable season.
Here they are:
12. Molinard Habanita EDT – I have started to use this one sparingly since it’s been discontinued. F’you, Molinard. Like seriously, why did they mess with one my favorite perfumes? It’s a big vetiver-vanilla-tobacco that went perfectly with my bob.
11. Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours EDP – I used up my decant of this soft, boozy suede. I may get a full-size bottle of this. Available at Luckyscent for $150. My full review.
10. Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris EDP – Here’s another decant that I used up. It’s a well-balanced iris giving white floral kisses while wearing raspberry flavored lip gloss. Available at Beautyhabit for $185. My full review.
9. Smell Bent Disco Nap EDT – I used this one up too because I would spray it like an Axe spray or something. This is a sweet gourmand with an ambergris base in the Sunset People Collection. I would wear it on my nights in over Tree Hut Brazil Nut Body Butter – a delicious combo. Available at Smell Bent for $49. My full review.
8. Chanel Coco EDT – This shouldn’t be a surprise. It makes the “winter” list every single year. This is “my” Chanel. Available at Nordstrom for $68. My full review.
7. Guerlain Shalimar Ode a la Vanille Sur la Route de Madagascar EDP – This limited edition is a real beauty. It’s Shalimar with even more smoky vanilla. This was my “elegant evening” scent. Full review here.
6. Prada L’Eau Ambrée EDP – Prada produces some excellent designer fragrances in my opinion. Now that I mostly work in an office setting, I’m wearing more and more of these “soft” scents. I love this salty ambergris rose. My full review.
5. Sonoma Scent Studio Velvet Rose EDP – This was a gift from a fellow rose lover to another rose lover. From January to March, I find myself wearing roses (or irises). It’s a Damask rose soliflore that is excellent. Available at Sonoma Scent Studio for $65. My full review.
4. LUSH Rose Jam EDP – This was a limited edition that I got my hands on. I’m a mega fan of the shower gel and snagged this up when it was available online. It’s a jammy, sweet rose. I think the shower gel smells better, but this will do.
3. Hèrmes Vetiver Tonka EDP – This one makes the winter list every year too. It’s a vetiver caramel latte and I like to wear it during the day. Available at Hermes for $245. My full review.
2. Prada Infusion d’Iris EDP – Here’s another that I wear every late winter/early spring. It’s one of my favorite “day” fragrances. Available at Sephora for $84. My full review.
1. Vero Profumo Rubj EDP – This past winter, I didn’t mess around. I worked hard and kicked ass in every area of my life. The tuberose, cumin and musk fit my mindset perfectly. And it made me smell ferociously sexy. I love this perfume so much. Available at Luckyscent for $220. My full review.
This past winter I felt like I was more diverse than usual. Usually I just wear an amber, a rose and an iris. I wore more ambergris than usual and for practical reasons, I wore more “sheer” scents. But, most of the ones that I wore were old favorites.
What did you find yourself spraying the most of this past season? Were the old or new loves? Did you spy a common “theme”?
Here’s what I wore the most of Winter 12/13.
I wore Shalimar Ode de Vanille, Creed Angelique Encens and Kate Walsh Boyfriend when I wasn’t working. When I’m at work, I wear Chanel no 5 Eau Premiere. I really love roses too, but I over used them in the fall.
Roses are year round for me but the cravings go into overdrive Jan. 1st, when I’m so sick of winter. And then March happens and I go through an iris phase.
Also, I hope your coworkers thank you for smelling so good.
I wore a ton of amber and sandalwood: Samsara, Ambre Sultan, Santal de Mysore. I also dolloped on vintage Shalimar, Bal A Versailles and Bois des Iles like it was the end of the world. Anything to get through this interminable season. But now its really Spring and we have dafffs and hyacinths in full bloom – I too am craving Iris and florals – bring ’em on!!
We survived!
Yes, those will get you through winter. Warm, comforting. Really a great line-up.
I got my Shalimar Ode de Vanille Mexique and have been using a lot of Samsara, Keiko Mecheri’s Loukhoum, TF Black Orchid. I’m trying get my fill of my heavier scents before it gets too hot. I’m in southern Cali so Summer could happen any minute here!
I’ve always wanted to try Habanita. Does it have a lot of leather? On a whim I tried Molinard de Molinard and I love it.
I’m also a bit annoyed that Rose Jam was limited edition at Christmas time. Right when I don’t have the extra money to spend. Then when I did, all sold out. Boo.
Get ’em in while you can! Your summer will probably start within the next week!
Habanita is leathery but mostly it’s this tobacco-vanilla-vetiver (on me). When it works, it really works. It’s my femme fatale fragrance. I think if you can wear stuff like Black Orchid and Samsara, that Habanita will work on you too.
Oh, that Rose Jam thing has still made me angry. It was limited edition, online only too. They did it around the holidays (and yes, most of us are spent at that time and can’t buy stuff for ourselves). AND it wasn’t really announced to the last minute. I ended up with a bottle because I still had some “fun money” left over from the month before and a reader emailed me to let me know. She works at LUSH and was like “be on the lookout for Rose Jam!” and then I stalked the site. What kills me is right after that all these bottles showed up on eBay selling for double, ugh.
Great! I ordered Habanita! I can’t wait to try it even though it seems summer has already started here! Today was 91 degrees, where as last Tuesday it was 63 degrees. Ooof
91 degrees?! That is cruel!
Anyway, hope you like it!

Funny, as I was looking through your list, I was thinking “that’s such a great variety!” and then I got to your note about being more diverse than usual. 🙂 Clearly you smelled great this winter.
I was all over the place this winter…sort of similar to what was going on in my life too. But, I felt I was smelling good 🙂
