May was a really busy month for me too. I had to fly down to Nashville to get my car and the frugs. This trip turned into a much longer trip than expected (over half the month). I was doing well with my purchases but being there for so long, I had to pick up a few staples. And then there were a few bored trips to Ulta where I bought some really weird stuff like body stamps and colored zinc for my face. It was also my birthday month so I received a few beauty-related gifts (like a Clarisonic Mia 2).
As far as Empties go, I didn’t empty too many because of the traveling. And then there was a season shift which had me trying new things.
Here’s what I used up in May:
Exuviance Age Reverse Eye Contour – I absolutely love this eye cream and it’s been my “go to” for years. It does everything I want it to do. It’s one of my HG eye creams.
- Repurchase? Yes. But, sometimes I get distracted by other new, shiny stuff.
Reviva Labs Collagen Serum – This serum is probably for people with more lines than me. It did smooth my dehydration lines.
- Purchase? I don’t know. I liked it but didn’t love it as much as other Reviva Labs serums that I’ve tried.
TonyMoly Pocket Bunny Moist Face Mist – This is one of those things that ended up in my hands because of the packaging. It’s an “essence” like face mist with a faint floral-peach aroma. I use it before applying BB creams for an even more dewy look.
- Repurchase? Maybe. Or I may just reuse this spray bottle by adding some rosewater.
Nature Republic Apple Mango Sheet Mask – This is a serum mask that is super-soaked with serum. It smells like mangoes. It’s also sticky which I don’t know if this has to do with the formula or just how much serum this mask has.
- Repurchase? Well, of course I bought like 5 of these and I’m not crazy about them. BUT they do fit perfectly and leave my skin looking good. It’s the stickiness and the mango-ness of it all. That’s a turn off.
Innisfree It’s Real Rose Sheet Mask – This is a serum mask with a faint citrus-rose aroma. This one is for smoothing and brightening. Really don’t recommend this one for sensitive skins because it has a lot of lavender and grapefruit. But, I like it.
- Repurchase? Yes. I have repurchased this one a few times.
TonyMoly I’m Real Skin-Purifying Seaweed Mask – It’s a serum mask with a light “mineral aquatic” aroma. It smoothed and soften the skin.
- Repurchase? Yeah. I like this one.
Simple Skincare Replenishing Rich Moisturizer – This is a really basic unscented moisturizer. I’d compare it to Clinique Dramatic Differently Lotion. It’s extremely basic so really not worth using unless you’re using an amazing serum (which I try to use). It’s not bad but it’s not a game-changer either.
- Repurchase? I doubt it. I like CeraVe better for my skin. But, it’s cheap and not heavy feeling. So, that’s a bonus, I guess.
Atomy Healthy Glow Brightening Base – I’ve tried a lot of products from this Korean brand and this is by far my favorite. It’s a lightweight base with SPF 30 that smells like perfect lilies. It actually does make my skin look naturally glow-y. It’s applied after foundation which isn’t how the U.S. uses “base” but man, it looks good.
- Repurchase? Yes.
La Colline Moisture Boost Cellular Perfect Hydration Serum (sample x 2, not pictured) – The Swiss are all about the moisture. And this is a really moisturizing creamy serum.
- Purchase? Shoo, like I can afford Swiss skincare.
Ziaja Natural Olive Cream Light Formula (sample, not pictured) – It’s “light” but it’s still a thicker cream (no clue what the “non-light” formula is like). The scent is a clean, green scent. It’s a good basic moisturizer.
- Purchase? Probably not.
Summary – Now why is my skin being so dry? My skin is sooo thirsty.
Laboratorios del Pueblo Florida Water – It’s already time to bust out the colognes. Because this stuff is so cheap, I use it in the bath.
- Repurchase? Yes. It’s a great “linen refresher” too.
- Purchase? Nah, I think I can live without it.
Summary – It’s boring citrus season and I’m roll’n with it.
Whipped Manicreme in Majestic Rose (not pictured) – This is a shea butter based hand cream that feels amazing and is very moisturizing. The scent is like a rose and Egyptian musk. I think it’s been discontinued which is a shame because I love this stuff.
- Repurchase? Nope, can’t.
Haus of Gloi Pumpkin Butter in Tabac (not pictured) – Tabac is a limited edition autumn scent that is meant to smell like tobacco, vanilla and cedar. Technically I should have loved this scent, but I didn’t. It’s more of a sweet cedar in the butter format. And for some reason a sweet cedar isn’t what I want my lotion to smell like. In my opinion, this would have made a better scent for a home fragrance.
- Repurchase? No.
Cococare Cocoa Butter Stick – For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a stick of this around. It smells good and it works for about everything. Plus, it’s really cheap. Love it.
- Repurchase? Yes.
Summary – I love butters.
L’Oreal Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm – This is a deep conditioner. I used it every time I washed. It’s OK, wasn’t too heavy for my hair. But, I think the brand promises more than what they can deliver.
- Repurchase? No.
TonyMoly Haeyo Mayo Hair Nutrition Mask (sample, not pictured) – I was given this sample in Hong Kong. It’s a hair treatment mask with a coconut and lemon aroma. Does a pretty good job.
- Purchase? Yeah, if I can find it here.
Summary – And my hair is dry too.
AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact in 204 Tan Gold – I really love this stuff even if it is rather perfume-y. It provides a sheer, dewy coverage. And it has SPF 50. Color selection is lacking, but this shade works for me.
- Repurchase? Yes. Do they sell additional refills for these?
Essence I Love Extreme Volume Mascara – I love this mascara. It works for me and it retails for under $5.
- Repurchase? Yes.
Summary – When it comes to makeup, all I really use up is mascara and complexion products.
Total: 21 total. 16 full-size. 1 deluxe/travel size. 5 samples
What about you? Which products did you empty in May? Did you buy anything new? Throw anything out?
I’ve been doing this sort of post every month for a year now. In a year, I’ve emptied 267 products! Isn’t that wild? Yes, many of these were samples or one time use products such as a sheet mask. I’m also a blogger so I try a lot of products. I’ve noticed that I definitely empty more skincare and bath/body products than I do fragrance, makeup or hair.
