EauMG’s June 2016 Empties

june16_empties

I spent most of June sick so I was lucky to use any products. It was a big deal if I did my skincare routine and most of the month I didn’t wear any makeup.

As far as purchases, I ended up buying one of those Urban Decay lipsticks that was marked down because of the new packaging. I ended up with F-Bomb, a true red. I purchased one of the new Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks in Gone Greige.  I love the color (taupe-y mauve) but I’m not a fan of the flavor of this line of lipsticks. I’ll still use it though.

I visited Chicago but managed to not buy any beauty products. When I got home, I was feeling a “look” so I ended up splurging on department store makeup. I ended up buying two Tom Ford Lips & Boys Lipsticks in Stavros and Vladamir. These are both weird grey/taupe shades, exactly what I’ve been craving. I finally bought MAC Lipstick in Stone. This full-coverage dark mink/taupe is excellent. I bought Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow in Lust Red. Now I want a few more shades in this formula because I love their finish! I ended up buying a new foundation and decided to give MAC Studio Sculpt a try. So far, I like it but really it’s too hot to wear foundation.

Here’s what I emptied in June:

June skincare empties

SKINCARE

June was all about gentle skincare.

Physicians Formula Argan Oil – Multi-purpose, unscented, basic argan oil with no funky smell and a cute bottle.

  • Repurchase? I probably will unless I get distracted by something else. My skin loves argan.

Garden of Wisdom Blue Mallow Hyaluronic Acid Serum – This unscented, lightweight serum was in a Boxwalla. It’s weightless and somewhere between a gel/liquid. It made my skin look plump and hydrated. I was even putting it on before reapplying sunscreen in the afternoon because it just makes me look good.

  • Purchase? Yes.

Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Perfecting Toning Lotion – This is a thicker, nourishing essence that I actually really liked. It could have been perfect if it were scent-free. (The scent is a light, generic floral).

  • Repurchase? Maybe. If I see it on sale and I’m just so happening to be making an Yves Rocher order.

CeraVe AM Facial Lotion – This is an excellent basic moisturizer for fussy skin. It has SPF, no fragrance and the texture is great under makeup. My dermatologist recommends it to anyone that likes to burn their face off with chemicals.

  • Repurchase? I usually do in the fall. For the summer, it doesn’t have as much SPF as I like. When I need cheap and good, this is what I buy.

Nature Republic Given by Nature Apple Mango Sheet Mask (not pictured) – It has a fruity mango fragrance and is supposed to help “brighten” skin. I have a ton of these for some reason. They’re, at best, OK.

  • Repurchase? Probably not.

TonyMoly I’m Real Red Wine Sheet Mask – Out of the “I’m Real” line this one is one of my favorites. It has a tart, fruity fragrance and is great for summer.

  • Repurchase? I usually do.

3W Clinic Fresh White Sheet Mask – Yes, this has a Samsung logo and sells for crazy cheap. But, I swear it’s one of the best sheet masks for my skin. Niacinamide is one of the first ingredients. The other stuff in it plumps. It’s one of the few sheet masks that leaves my skin looking FLAWLESS.

  • Repurchase? Yes. They are cheap and amazing.

Nature Republic Ginseng Royal Silk Watery Cream (sample) – I don’t know what Korean witchcraft is involved with this product, but it feels amazing. It’s like this watery oil that nourishes but has no weight. I’m mesmerized by this. AND it has gold flakes. So much magic.

  • Purchase? YES. I need to further investigate this magic.

Lalun Winter Rose Toner (travel size) – This is a superb rosewater toner/refreshing spray. You can smell and feel the difference immediately. More here.

  • Purchase? Yes.

La Prairie Cellular Radiance Eye Cream (deluxe sample) – Unlike the other La Prairie products I tried last month, this one didn’t impress me.

  • Purchase? No. I like my drugstore stuff better.

La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Serum (deluxe serum) – Such a <meh> serum that smells like alcohol.

  • Purchase? No.

fragrance empties

FRAGRANCE

As you can tell, I had a weird craving for “heavy” scents.

Green Tree Dragon’s Blood Incense (sample, 2 sticks) – Holy moly, this is some indolic stuff. Like the skankiest jasmine with some resins. Super strong too.

  • Purchase? No.

Green Tree Hand of Fatima Incense (sample, 2 sticks) – This brand really leans indolic. This one is a bit softer and woodsy but it still has a lot of jasmine.

  • Purchase? I actually like this one but I still prefer Nag Champa.

Stéphane Humbert Lucas 777 Khôl de Bahreïn EDP (sample) – I love this powdery amber fragrance. Review here.

  • Purchase? I ended up getting a full-size bottle.

DSH Perfumes Cologne Absolute (sample) – This is an amazing grapefruit/rhubarb that was a limited edition. Review here.

  • Purchase? It’s no longer available but I really liked my sample.

Guerlain Shalimar Ode à la blah blah de Madagascar EDP (sample) – Longest name ever for a pretty perfume. Review here.

  • Purchase? After reviewing, I ended up buying a bottle.

bath and body empties

BATH/BODY

Summer is all about bar soaps and tackling the humidity with too many showers.

Hermès Bar Soap in Eau de Narcisse Bleu – You really aren’t living until you use Hermès bath/body products. This tiny bar is stuffed with enough perfume to be an eau de cologne. It’s LUXURY.

  • Repurchase? Yeah. I want to LIVE LIVE LIVE, don’t I?

Monsillage Bar Soap in Fruit de la Passion – I love how this pissy, fruity fragrance almost smells dirty but it’s not.

  • Repurchase? Maybe. I can’t describe my soap buying habits.

Yves Rocher Lilas Mauve Shower Gel – It’s a shower gel that smells like lilacs and actually foams (unlike the Pacifica one).

  • Repurchase? I probably will. I tend to buy a bottle every year or so when I long for spring.

DIY Coffee Scrub – So, I made an amazing coffee scrub that my grandma had written in some cookbook. It was awesome.

  • Make again? Yes.

Pharmar Agua de Azahar – This is a dirt cheap orange blossom water. I end up dumping like an entire bottle in the bath because this makes living life much more enjoyable.

  • Repurchase? Yes. It’s like 99¢. I can’t resist.

june hair empties

HAIR

This is like the most emptied amount of hair products in a month…ever!

Sachajuan Silver Shampoo – This is a purple tinted shampoo that I bought when I had the highlights. It was magic at eliminating brassy tones and giving me the ashy blonde that I love. Plus, it smells really good, like violets. Even though my hair is no longer blonde, I do like to use it to emphasize cool tones.

  • Repurchase? Maybe. I want to try the LUSH one too.

FAR Botanicals Verde Oil in Blood Orange & Patchouli Musk (deluxe sample) – My hair loves these oils. This one is more “hippie” in fragrance because of the patchouli but it’s balanced by an orange blossom and amber. Review here.

  • Purchase? When I run out of these, I’m going to decide on the fragrance. I like them all.

June makeup empties

MAKEUP

I emptied more, basic makeup.

Pacifica Dream Big Lash Extending Mascara – After using it for a few months, I still really like it. Full review here.

  • Repurchase? I may when I want a more “natural” looking mascara.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener – I’ve been so pleased with these concealers. I bought this shade on a recommendation and I’m so happy that I did. It’s great for dark circles. The formula is thin so it may not provide enough coverage. Most days, I can use this alone. Other days I apply concealer and then put this closer to the inner corner of the eyes.

  • Repurchase? Yes.

Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Pencil in Demolition – I emptied one of these in the past year and then found that I had another one from a gift set. It’s a great dark brown pencil eyeliner. I could probably get a few more wears from it but at this length, I find it too awkward to use.

  • Repurchase? Despite really liking it, I like the Kiko ones just as much. And they’re cheaper.

Total: 26. 16 full-size, 4 deluxe/travel size, 6 samples

I actually thought I emptied less than this in June. In my mind, I barely used up anything but when I did this, I realized I was wrong. Keeping up with my Empties like this really puts all of my usage into perspective. And that perspective being that I use too much crap.

What about you? Which products did you empty in June? Did you buy anything new?

  1. My favorite of the month was the Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Cleansing Foam – it was a giant 1oz deluxe sample that lasted for months. I almost cried when I ran out.. Am I crazy that I am even considering paying $100 for the full size?
    Love your reviews!

    1. *la la la not listening* I’ve heard so many wonderful things about that cleanser. I don’t need any encouragement! 😉

I’m not gonna judge. I think if you loved it and you can make it last then the “cost per use” is worth it.

For real, I hate when they get me hooked on deluxe samples of stuff that I know I can’t afford, lol.

  2. I am so behind on blogs, but I still wanted to post mine because I’ve started tracking my empties due to reading your posts. My list:
Frederic Malle En Passant spray sample
Soivohle Ylang N’ Pepper spray sample
The Face Shop Cucumber sheet mask
Tonymoly I’m Real Seaweed sheet mask
The Different Company Bois d’Iris decant
Tonymoly I’m Real Rice sheet mask
B&BW Sparkling Pink Champagne foaming hand soap
Escada Pacific Paradise perfume (used as room spray in bathroom)
Tonymoly I’m Real Broccoli sheet mask
    Tonymoly I’m Real Pomegranate
Organix Argan Oil of Morocco conditioner travel size

I was really into sheet masks, though I have barely used them this month. And let me say how I celebrated when the B&BW hand soap and Escada perfume were used up. I pretty much hated them both, but they were hand me downs from my boyfriend’s mom. I should have just donated them to Goodwill. Lesson learned. There’s no need to suffer through products with scents you hate.

    1. Those are some great empties 🙂 I have so many perfume samples and I’m surprised by how slow I am at getting through them!

I love sheet masks but in July didn’t use many. I’ve been on a gel mask kick. They Tonymoly I’m Real line is really good in my opinion. My favorite has been the milky one and the rice one. But, there’s a fruit one I like too and can’t remember now, Pomegranate or Wine?

I hear you. I don’t know why I keep using things I don’t love. Life is too short for this but I *still* do this. I give away a lot to friends but even friends don’t want some of this stuff 😉
