Where did July go? I felt it went by really quickly.
Overall, it was a really chill month. It’s summer so a lot of people are vacationing. Throughout the month I was able to entertain folks from out of town. It was nice to catch up with old friends; we’re all spread out all over the place.
I went to a few museums. I also (FINALLY) took the train up to Beacon with a girlfriend to visit Dia:Beacon, a museum of contemporary and conceptual art in a rural setting by the Hudson. It blew my mind. It’s one of my favorite spaces for art. As far as Beacon, it’s a cute small town with fancy paletas and a brewery.
I spent the rest of the month doing my “enrichment activities”, learning new things and enjoying the city.
Here’s my July 2017 Favorites:
Wearing (fragrance) – There wasn’t really a theme of what I wore in July. I went for wispy scents like the tea floral, Jennifer Lopez Still (that ALWAYS gets compliments) and Burberry Touch. I also wore Eric Buterbaugh Nick’s Sunflower because it’s pretty. I was really into Escentric Molecules Escentric 04. It’s fresh and citrus-y without being boring.
In the category of bath/body, I was into peaches. I was really feeling Bath & Body Works Pretty as a Peach, the sort of peach floral you expect with a name like that. And then I’d follow up with a lot of Demeter Peach. Oh, and Lancôme Trésor dusting powder.
Summary – I was all over the place. Celeb scents, designer and niche.

Wearing (cosmetics) – My skin was acting like a little bratty asshole, so I had to rethink some things. I ended up wearing concealer and foundation because I was embarrassed by redness.
- Eyes – L’Oreal Lash Paradise is amazing! It is truly worth the hype. It made me short, stubborn and thick lashes look like falsies. As far as eyeshadow, I was lazy. I wore Alima Pure Satin Matte in Bone all-over and then some Bramble in the crease (a cool mauve-y taupe). If I wasn’t super lazy, I’d smudge some Kiko Long Lasting Shadow Stick in 39 Dark Taupe around my eyes.
- Face – Well, I finally understood what my Shiseido Foundation Color Control Stick is for. It’s for neutralizing major redness of majorly pale folks. Skinfood Peach Sake Pore BB Cream did a decent job of providing coverage while not making me an oil slick (and providing some SPF).
- Lips – My lip preferences were all over the place, like my perfume choices. I was into “my lips but deader” taupes/grays like Coloured Rain in Marshmallow. I was into obnoxious corals like Dose of Colors Lipstick in Coy. I was also really into nude-y pinks like Bite Amuse Bouche in Fig.
Summary – I didn’t really have an exciting month as far as makeup goes.
Wearing (clothes) – It’s that time in the summer where I resort to bummy tank tops and jeans. I’m all about these fugly Uniqlo jeans paired with cheap cotton tank tops and a Western-inspired belt. I also started viewing black as oppressive in the heat. I bought this “potter smock” thing from Cos in a deep indigo and this ridiculous palm printed “potter smock” from & Other Stories.
Summary – Forever going to dress like the great auntie you wish you had that teaches art history at a state college and buys all her accessories from museum gift shops.
Using (skincare) – My skin went absolutely bonkers around the 4th of July. I’ve been dealing with cystic acne. My skincare routine has been simplified to the very basics. Towards the end of the month, I had to deal with the marks so I focused on brightening. I had a facial at Osswald and she used a La Prairie mask on me that gave my skin a pep talk, grounded it from using the phone for 2 weeks and really had my skin thinking about it’s bad choices. Of course the stupid mask costs $37.50 each. UGH. I also started using a sleeper product by Siam SEAS. This stuff has a lot of oils and things that usually irritate me but I swear this is a bottle of magic for me. My skin loves black cumin so much. My skin hasn’t been oily or gross since using it.
Summary – Why me skin, why me?!

Eating/Drinking – Judge me all you want but I had a frosé and loved it. The rest of the month I lived off of cherries and cold cucumber soup.
Summary – I will totally frosé all day with you.
Listening – Back to my old ways of psychedelic soul. So lots of Prince, Curtis Mayfield, Janelle Monáe, Shuggie Otis and Solange.
Summary – Good music never gets old.
Watching – I went and watched “Baby Driver” after having so many people telling me to go watch it. It was much better than I expected. ATL played the part really well. And then I watched those TV shows that expose how f’n terrible our privatized prison is while we listen to some guy explain why he shanked some other guy over an individual snack pack of Bugles®.
Summary – I’m so very sophisticated, I know.
Reading – I didn’t really do any “fun” reading. I’ve been reading French language books and working in French workbooks.
Summary – Am I Jane Birkin yet?
Wanting – A vacation.
Summary – And I’m going to Budapest in August.

I would have to agree that July went very quickly. After reading your list, I realized we have a few in common.
I love the Lancome Tresor dusting powder and Burberry Touch. These are just some of my favorites.
Aren’t those two just so lovely?
