February is that month that flies by but I never complain about it. I want the dead of winter to fly by. I don’t want it to last longer.
It was a dull month. There were mid-terms and projects due. The weather was spotty. One day it’d be so springlike and perfect and the next it would be snowing. It was confusing.
My mom randomly showed up for a day. I wake up and look at my phone and see that I have a text. It’s like “Hey, I’m outside”. And it’s my mom who lives like 900 miles away. That was a surprise. We went to a museum, ate cupcakes at Molly’s Cupcakes, ate Italian (where a “celeb” from the Food Network just happened to be dining at also), I pointed to a random building in Tribeca and told the lie that Beyoncé lived there. And then she left.
I’m posting this much later than I wanted (I wrapped up a term in March), but better late than never. Here’s my favorites from February:
Wearing (fragrance) – I’m predictable. I was so into roses. I’d bathe with Malle Lipstick Rose Shower Gel and follow up with rose perfumes. Some of my favorites to wear were Armani Si, Eric Buterbaugh Sultry and Ramon Monegal L’eau de Rose.
Summary – It was a good month for Rose Week because I was really into rose.
Wearing (cosmetics) – I’ve been in a major pink mood. This is odd for me. With so many fun funky colors out there that are now the “norm”, I think pink is like the new punk. My favorite pink cosmetics of the month included:
- Eyes: Kiko Long Lasting Stick Shadow in Golden Mauve (a dusty pink with gold shimmer) and MAC Eyeshadow in Sushi Flower (a warm pink that I’ve had since my last pink phase)
- Face: NYX Cream Blush in Hot Pink (must have for pale folks) and Make Up For Ever Artist Powder in 1872 Pearly Pink used as a highlighter. It also makes for a pretty eyeshadow shade.
- Lips: Kevyn Aucoin The Expert Lip in Ariabelle (cool light pink), Milani Color Statement Lipstick in Pink Frost (the tackiest porno/80’s Playboy pink shimmer) and Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Cherries in the Snow (a classic bold pink)
Summary – Pink and roses? What’s happening to me?
Wearing (clothes) – I ended up buying some of the Uniqlo U Spring ’17 items. They’re simple and very well made. I can’t wait to wear them but it’s still been cold and icky. In February, like every month, I keep wearing the same uniform of black jeans, black turtleneck and black ankle boots.
Summary – I can’t wait to wear something different!
Using (skincare) – I used up some Korean sheet masks. I have bought so many “skintertainment” products that I should at least be using up. I did.
My favorite products of the month were Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules. Years and years ago, I used these. I’m so easily distracted, that I forgot they even existed. My skin has been so dry and abused by winter. These scent-less capsules nourish, leave my skin looking and dewy and feeling like a baby. These also layer wonderfully under the Ceramide Lift & Firm Day Lotion. Unlike the capsules, the SPF lotion is highly perfumed and has an oily feel. I don’t mind it but I wouldn’t recommend it for sensitive or oily skin types. However, I do recommend the capsules for anyone with dry and/or fussy, sensitive skin.
Summary – I hate that those teeny capsules are so pricey but they feel so good.
Eating/Drinking – Luxardo cherries. I had one heck of a sweet tooth. I just wanted to eat dark chocolate and drink Manhattans. I mean, I didn’t but this is what I wanted to do.
Summary – I can’t wait for produce to be in season. More self-destructive “cabin fever” tendencies going on here.
Listening – I started listening to a podcast, Sawbones. It’s not for the squeamish. These doctors (a married couple) discuss past medical failures in history or “misguided medicine”. It’s really interesting.
Summary – Who doesn’t want to learn about misguided medicine on their free time?
Watching – I watched “The Lure“, a Polish stripper-mermaid-vampire-musical (NSFW trailer here). It was actually really good. It didn’t help curb any of my current disco perm cravings though. I also attended “Sunset Boulevard” on Broadway featuring Glenn Close as Norma Desmond. It was great. Glenn loved playing Norma. She and Fred Johanson (Max) did such an amazing job. I highly recommend seeing it before it ends.
Summary – I really should be seeing all the Broadway and Off Broadway that I can.
Reading – I was bombarded with mid-terms and with biostats. I didn’t really do anything entertaining other than go see a Broadway show and wear sheet masks made of lace. I wish I could tell you that I read something very wonderful and inspiring, but I didn’t. I was lucky to read my horoscope daily.
Summary – My Kindle is filled with so many interesting titles; yet, I’m not reading. This sucks.
Wanting – Spring. I know complaining about the weather is so boring, but I can’t help it. I’m ready to wear different outfits, different makeup, different perfumes. I’m ready to stop wearing puff coats
Summary – I really just want it to be caftan season.
What were your favorites from February? Did you do anything inspiring? Go anywhere inspiring? Eat anything inspiring?

That vintage Max Factor ad is everything!! I’m not generally into pink makeup either, but I’ve been loving pink blush recently, and Urban Decay Backtalk is my most-worn lipstick this year. I love the idea of pink as the new offbeat color now that blue lips are mainstream.
It’s a time capsule of everything that I want. So much kitsch, so much fun.
I absolutely adore Backtalk. It’s on my to-buy list (and I’m trying to buy less). It’s such a flattering, versatile shade.
I love all the funky stuff but I think “classics” can be very expressive as well. I mean look at Max Factor lady!
Eeeep the Ceramide Capsules sound like something I need 😉
Feb faves – Cetaphil Kids sunscreen, Paula’s Choice BHA liquid, getting my nails done, getting my hair done, not much else really, it went by in a blur.
As for books, I’m fantasising about reading non uni stuff, come November LOL
I like your faves 🙂
That’ll be here so quickly!!!
I hope so! 😀
Feb/March faves: La Mer soft cream that I got as free sample from Nordstrom, (have you done any reviews of this brand? I wish someone I trust would so I could decide if it was worth buying it), Atelier Cologne Orange, Chloe Love Story, and Estée Lauder and Ulta store brand lip liners
I haven’t tried much La Mer. I used to think they are overpriced and we can find better at a cheaper price point. BUT, I also have a free sample of their lifting eye serum and it’s a miracle. I am *seriously* contemplating buying a bottle when my little sample is out. I NEVER thought I’d say that. I haven’t tried the Soft Cream. I used to be real “don’t buy expensive stuff”. But, I think it’s case by case. Some expensive things feel like they’re “worth” it. And if something works for you, it works for you. Like everything in life, it’s about balance 🙂
I hear ya on the oranges. I want everything right now to smell like oranges and orange blossoms. I LOVE EL lip liners. I guess I should give Ulta’s a whirl!
