EauMG’s February 2017 Empties

EauMG Feb 2017 Empties

February 2017 Lowbuy Update – I’m such a cheater. I ended up buying a “bundle” of Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks which were Buy 3 for $45. I always gripe about liquid lipsticks but for some reason I wanted the new shades. The swatches were just too darn pretty. FYI – they have done something to the formula. Two of the shades were very comfortable (the new ones) and one of the older colors, Dolce, was very uncomfortable I looked at the ingredients and they vary immensely. Word to the wise, try before you buy.

For Valentine’s, David tried to be sweet and bought me makeup (he pities me during my low-buy). It was four Rituel de Fille lipsticks in shades “that really look like something you’d wear”. Well, they should look like something I’d wear because I wear those four shades every week! So, yeah, he bought four shades of lipsticks that I already owned (See, I have issues). I returned them. My rain check was for The Ordinary skincare which I received in March.

February’s empties are totally random. You can really tell I’m going through crap and purging what I can. This is such a random collection of stuff. I’m trying to buy less and enjoy more in 2017.

Feb 2017 Skincare Empties

I was very close to emptying full-sizes but I made them last into March. I did use up a few sheet masks.

Glyderm Gentle Face Cleanser – I’m only on team low pH now. This isn’t a wash for everyone since it’s runny and non-foaming but I like it. I swear my cystic acne has improved because of using gentle cleansers.

  • Repurchase? I already have! I bought back-ups in December.

Garden of Wisdom Hyaluronic Acid Serum in Blueberry Fruit – This is a very lightweight HA serum that smells like blueberries and has a faint blue tint. These may not be the “best” (meaning “heavy duty”) HA serums that I’ve used but I love them. I like being able to choose from a list of antioxidants. I like how this layers with other products in my routine. It’s not a stand alone product (no HA serum is) but it plays so nicely with other products.

  • Repurchase? Yes. I love using this in the summer.

Garden of Wisdom Pineapple/Red Wine Enzyme Gel (travel size) – This is the product that started my GoW obsession. It smells AMAZING. It does a good job of gently exfoliating. Mini review here.

  • Purchase? Yes.

The Face Shop Real Nature Peony Sheet Mask – I usually dislike The Face Shop’s masks. This one is an exception. It’s an oil serum mask that smells like a fancy Hermès EDT.

  • Repurchase? I think so.

Neutrogena Fine Fairness Sheet Mask – I totally forgot that I had one of these left. It’s one of my favorite cheapie sheet masks.

  • Repurchase? Yes.

Skinfood Beauty in a Food Mask Snail Sheet Mask – This is a sheet mask that mainly the French side of me was like “buy the snail food mask”. It’s your typical snail serum mask. It’s actually pretty darn good for something so cheap.

  • Repurchase? Yes.

BioBelle #Stay Gorgeous Sheet Mask – The ingredients of this one sounded promising for my dry skin (almond oil and vitamin E). But, it did nothing for my skin other than leave it sticky. It doesn’t really have a fragrance so that’s good, I guess.

  • Repurchase? No.I have used $1 masks that were much better.

Hey Pinkgo Girl! Brightening White Yogurt Lifting Lace Mask – Let’s be real, this exists for the novelty. It’s a stretch lace that you wear over your ears. It’s actually sort of drying for my skin because the lace is thick and doesn’t help with the serum’s absorption.

  • Repurchase? No. But, hey, it’s fun. It’s more a novelty product than a skincare product.

Hey Pinkgo Girl Lace Mask

Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Eye Cream (travel size) – I really loved the feel of this product but I wish it came in a pump. It did leave my eye area smooth and made concealer look excellent.

  • Purchase? I would if it came in different packaging.

La Colline Moisture Boost Cellular Perfect Hydration Serum (travel size) – If I were filthy rich, I’d slather my face in all the Swiss shit. This is a fragrant moisture serum that makes my skin glow. Mixed with foundation, it leaves my skin like “Whoa, like who is this glowing rich lady?”

  • Purchase? I wish.

The Saem Foaming Mask

The Saem Gem Miracle Black Pearl Bubble Mask (sample) – How weird is this stuff?! It was actually fun to use but too drying for me. I may buy a bottle for summer just for the novelty.

  • Purchase? Maybe.

fragrance empties

I’m taking the Dave Ramsey “debt snowball” approach and applying it to fragrance samples. Empty the samples with the lowest amount of product left.

Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa Incense – It’s what home should smell like.

  • Repurchase? Yes.

NEST Candle in Tahiti Vanille – It’s a sweet vanilla. Review here. It doesn’t matter how much you pay for a vanilla-scented candle; they will also have discolored wax.

  • Purchase? No. I’m tired of vanilla.

Tokyo Factory Soy Candle in Japanese Yuzu – It’s a a votive in a French yogurt container. Smells like citrus.

  • Repurchase? No. It’s no longer available for purchase.

DSH Perfumes Iridum EDT (sample) – This is a dusty iris inspired by Ancient Egypt. It really is like an iris found in a tomb.

  • Purchase? No. Or maybe yes. I really do like it.

DSH Perfumes DAWN Sweet Dreams EDP (sample) – It a sweet, dreamy lavender. It’s a great “bed time” scent.

  • Purchase? No.

Indult Tihota EDP (sample) – Super sweet vanilla that is too much for me 99% of the time. Review here.

  • Purchase? No. Like I said, I’m currently so sick of vanilla.

Givenchy Dahlia Noir EDP (sample) – Like the epitome of <meh>. Review here.

  • Purchase? Nope.

MIKMOI Vesper EDP (sample) – So weird and dry. Review here. It’s really a cool perfume.

  • Purchase? I’ve thought about it but there are others from the line that I prefer.

Ramon Bejar Secret Sandalwood EDP (sample) – Such an excellent sandalwood. Review here.

  • Purchase? If I for some reason get in my head that I need a great sandalwood, I’ll buy this.

Nez a Nez L’Etre Reve EDP (sample) – It’s boozy woods and spices. Really nice stuff.

  • Purchase? Nope.

bath and body empties

More of the “cleaning out the cabinets” collection.

Soap Distillery Body Oil in Elderflower Liqueur – I love the smell of this stuff so much. It’s like waxy, citrus florals (like honeysuckle). Plus, the blend of natural oils is absolutely my favorites for skin/hair.

  • Repurchase? Yes!

Historiae Soap in Bouquet du Trianon – It was Valentine’s Day. I wanted a heart-shaped soap. It smells like musk and white florals, think along the lines of Narciso Rodriguez but with more tuberose.

  • Repurchase? No. It’s not my favorite scent from the line.

De La Cruz Arnica Salve – I use this on my hands at night. The aroma of benzoin and spearmint reminds me of some sort of cola flavor that would be popular in the Deep South in the early 1900’s. It’s a greasy salve good enough for farmer great uncles so it’s good enough for me.

  • Repurchase? Probably. It’s not a staple but it’s something I buy out of nostalgia.

Kopari Coconut Crush Scrub (travel size) – This is warm tropical gourmand scented scrub in a coconut oil base. It’s super moisturizing which means it’s also hazardous in the shower. It leaves the tub all sorts of slippery. It’s almost impossible to get the product out of the tube in the winter. But, it does feel good on the skin.

  • Purchase? No.

Noble Isle Shower Gel in Willow Song (travel size) – I’d compare this brand to Molton Brown. It’s a super fragrant shower gel. It smells like green meadows and wildflowers.

  • Repurchase? No. There’s other scents from the line that I prefer more.

hair empties

It was a very slow month for emptying hair products.

FAR Botanicals Day One Gentle Clarifying Cleanser – I absolutely love this stuff. It’s the only clarifying cleanser I’ve used that doesn’t dry out my hair and scalp. It’s fancy liquid mud that smells like cedar and lavender.

  • Purchase? YES!

Paul Mitchell Keratin Intense Treatment (travel size) – I have never tried keratin shampoo/conditioners but I honestly do think this smoothed my hair. I like the fragrance. Maybe all keratin conditioners are this good, I don’t know.

  • Purchase? I probably should.

makeup empties

It was an even slower month for emptying makeup.

Bare Minerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow in Soft Linen – I like to use this as an eyeshadow base since it evens out the color on the lid while providing some SPF 15 protection. I had no issues with this flaking or being too dry. My only complaint is that it’s hard to get the product out of the container as it starts to empty. As you can see, it sticks to the side and all of that stuff is dry and you don’t want it if you could get it out.

  • Repurchase? Maybe. I’m currently using the Benefit primer with SPF.

Total: 29. 15 Full-Size. 6 Travel/Deluxe Sample. 8 Samples

It sounds like a lot of empties, but it’s not. It was mostly sheet masks and totally random perfume samples. I feel like I’m really “cleaning house”.

What about you? Which products did you empty in February? Did you buy anything new?

*Nordstrom, Sephora, Target, Amazon and contain affiliate links. Pics are mine except for the roses which are from

  1. Ooh, everyone’s been raving about the Ordinary lately and I’m planning out my purchase!
That stretch lacy mask is totally a novelty. I can’t imagine stretchy lace being comfortable to wear on your face. It’s one of those ‘do it for the pic’ products, but on the plus side you look cute!
Like you, I am tired of vanilla. I have a vanilla candle (from bath and body works, which is a pretty good dupe for diptyque’ vanille candle, huh??!!) that I just can’t use up. It’s suddenly warm here and I’ve moved on th heavy, thick florals which I’m trying to use up before it gets TOO hot and I won’t want to light anything on fire! (Boy Smells’ lanai and that Mexico candle)
Why is Historiae so hard to find? I’m just going to purchase from Amazon and hope for the best! Actually, I bought a small bottle at Disneyland, of all places! Last time I went they no longer carried it and had moved on to higher end lines like Acqua do Parma. I did find one perfume that I liked but was afraid to ask the price. It was already so much just to get in the park! It was a rare perfume so now I kind of regret not getting it even though I was kinda meh on it. Perfume regrets! We all have them. Oh well!

    1. It’s actually really good stuff. I haven’t used it all yet because I want to introduce one thing at a time. BUT I’m very happy so far. Very cheap and effective. Their hype is legit!

Total novelty. Tbh, I feel like this was created for somebody’s fetish that I’ll never understand. It’s soft but thick. But, yeah, just for sharing pics on Insta!

I was into vanilla but burnt myself out in Feb. I’m just like, ugh, no more vanilla. I just want everything to smell like lilacs or orange blossoms.

It’s a great line! I didn’t realize that Duchaufour is the perfumer?! I bought soaps at Epcot. A friend picked me up some more there when they went pack for some work thing. I wish I had bought their rose perfume. It was almost gourmand-y.

  2. Btw, that’s pretty sweet of your husband to pick out lipsticks for you. Mine is like, just order it and I’ll pay you back

    1. It was a really nice thing for him to do. So, I felt HORRIBLE when I was like “Nice trying but I apparently have an addiction”.

  3. Used up my fave moisturiser (Moo Goo brightening), Paula’s Choice 2% bha liquid and Cetaphil children’s sunscreen. Bought some Cosrx stuff from iherb – blackhead something (to replace Paula’s Choice bha), whitening essence (just because I want to be Snow White), some gloopy overnight honey mask, Crazy Rumors lip balms.

I do want some of The Ordinary skincare stuff but undecided on what exactly, hmm.

    1. That’s a good round of Empties!

I rally like Cosrx. I had used their AHA/BHA but gave it to a friend that I thought could use it more than me (part of my cleaning/purging process). I think I may buy their low pH cleanser the next time I need to buy cleanser.

The Ordinary is intimidating. Like they have 3 Vitamin C products?! Based on a friend’s recommendations, I ended up with “Buffet”, Vitamin C Suspension and two other acids for brightening. I like a skincare routine with a lot of layers so this brand works for me.

  4. Hey, that’s the tactic I’ve been using with finishing up perfume samples and decants! I didn’t empty as much in February because I participated in wearing a jonth of rose perfumes, but here’s the list:
Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask (travel size)
Tonymoly Pureness 100 Caviar Mask Sheet Nutrition
Lush Honey I Washed the Kids soap sample
Lush The Comforter shower cream sample
Yves Rocher Aloe Vera from Mexico Shower Gel
    Comme des Garcons Calamus sample
    Amouage Lyric Woman decant
    Voluspa Golden Cypress candle
    Voluspa Bourbon French Vanilla candle
Iles Formula Haute Performance Shampoo and Conditioner samples
Nature’s Gate Daily Cleanse Herbal Conditioner

My purchases included a trip to Whole Foods to stock up on conditioner and toner. I use their 365 Brand Fragrance Free Conditioner in the jumbo size, and it works really well for me. I find it too tiring to try to buy shampoo whose scent would mesh well with any given scented conditioner. So this is just easy for me. Toner is the Andalou rose one. I love that it comes in a spray. All toners should be that way.

I bought a bunch of splits from the Splitmeet on NST, including a travel spray of Carnal Flower. Oh and llast time I forgot to say I bought a used bottle of Seville a L’Aube in January.

    1. Not bad!

I love toners in a spray. I now have those travel bottles and repackage my own (if they aren’t in a spray bottle). I love the feel of the mists and I think I use less when they are packaged that way.

Did you like that Yves Rocher shower gel? I used to love all their “around the world” shower gels but I haven’t purchased in years. I hear some are total busts. I’m trying to figure out which ones are good (as if I need to buy any shower gels…)

  5. Is it already confession time?

Your mask photos are always the best! 😀 And how tragic that your hub tried but failed because of… well, because you are a Level 10 Lipstick Connoisseur. The only time my hub has tried something similar was a V Day when I told him exactly which perfume to buy… because he knew he had no hope otherwise LOL

I emptied Paula’s Choice Resist 2% BHA. I did start using the Cosrx BHA and AHA in Jan, but I feel like the PC is a little better for me? No hard evidence, just a feeling that I need it to be more potent than the Cosrx. The Low PH cleanser is nice enough, but the scent is so strong! I can deal for those few seconds, just wasn’t expecting it to be quite so strong (I typically only use unscented stuff, so maybe I’m just a whiny baby). I have some snail stuff too, from Cosrx and some sheet masks. They’re fine.

I bought sale nail polish (75% off Xmas sets) and the Viseart pro pallet (so cute! great colors! no regrets!). I also bought something called “Gloves in a Can” which is supposed to be a lotion that temporarily coats your skin and won’t wash away after several hand washings. I can’t say it’s changed my life.

    1. Haha, well we’re at that stage now. I appreciate him trying and he did good! But, I think I have a bad habit of buying whatever I want. This does not make gift buying easy.

This is good to know. I prefer PC’s because it’s simple and effective. Because I do so many layers, I like my products to be simple (without other stuff to potentially irritate). I personally do not like fragrant cleansers at all. I’m a huge fan of low ph (which isn’t easy to find). I guess I’ll stick to my boring Glyderm and CeraVe. I sometimes think it’s not just the low ph that has helped my skin but also going fragrance free with my cleansers.

VISEART. I’m jelly. My problem is I can’t decide on which palette I want so I haven’t bought one. They all look so good. And I can’t justify buying them all 😉

I wish something like that would work. My poor nails/cuticles right now. I’ve been coating my hands in Aquaphor at night but need something during the day that is heavy duty but not greasy.
