EauMG Update – July 2013

get well pugs

I felt the need to do a quick update. I’m usually a blog’n machine but lately my health is getting in the way of that. Anyway, to make a long story short I’m down the pneumonia right now (as well as ear infections in both ears) and all I feel like doing is sleeping. Which is probably what I should be doing. I’ll be taking a break until I start feeling better. I have a few posts that may pop up along the way but I don’t expect that I’ll be posting daily until the end of this month. That has to do with time and well, the fact that smelling or even breathing isn’t so fun right now.

However, I’m already really bored. I’m a Type A workaholic personality and I don’t rest very well. In fact, I don’t even understand that concept. Entertain me. Tell me about the fragrances you’re wearing this summer. Even talk to me about what makeup you’re digging. Tell me stories about beautiful, frivolous things.

  1. hey! sorry to hear you are not feeling well.

I am basically on a makeup-buying moratorium until I use up some of what I have… I am really, really tempted, though, to try some Selma Hayek nuance products. She has some really pretty lip colors. We’ll see. Also I might be in the market for a new foundation later this summer… Almost used up my remaining few. I am still looking for a replacement for my FAVORITE, Shiseido Powdery Foundation, that was discontinued. I have tried a few things but nothing perfect yet.

Perfume, this summer I’ve been loving Bombay Bling, Scent of Departure Doha, Atelier Cologne Mistral Patchouli, Dior Grand Bal, and Pirouette Essentials Jasmine Musk…

    1. I don’t need any makeup but I like to hear about it.

As I waited in the drugstore, I noticed this display for a Maybelline product…a powder foundation in a bottle. I want to try that.
I don’t think the Selma Hayek products are available here but I hear awesome things about them on blogs.

Great choices. I just smelled Mistral Patchouli a few weeks. It’s good stuff. A summer patch! And I’ve always been a fan of Pirouette’s Jasmine Musk. It’s the best kind of skank.

      1. ahh that Maybelline sounds good! I like something just between a powder and liquid foundation and it’s hard to do. The Shisheido was a great product, with the added advantage of a lot of nuance/variety in their colors. I tried the Napoleon Perdis for Target powder foundation that was supposed to be the same idea but the coverage isn’t nearly as full/lasting as the Shiseido. I’ll go look for the Maybelline.

        1. My bad. It’s L’Oreal – Magic Nude Liquid Powder. It has really mixed reviews online…but I still want to try it.

  2. That sounds horrible! I hope that you make yourself get lots of rest. I have also found that old movies can be very healing. Film noir works particularly well for me but YMMV.

  3. Pneumonia?!! Yikes – take good care of yourself. Don’t know if you’re a Vitamin D fan, but I find that really upping the dose of D-3 for a few days will help knock a cold or flu out of my system better than most anything.

Perfumes I’ve been loving lately: Amouage Epic (sparingly, but oh so good in the heat), Guerlain Mayotte, Victoria Minya Hedonist and three perfume oils I recently got as samples: Aroma M Geisha Noire, Aroma M Geisha Green (your fave!), Regina Harris Amber Vanilla. Also got a sample of Bruno Acampora Musk, thinking I ought to explore more musks, but eh … it seems boring next to Serge’s MKK. Even in the heat, I prefer more animalic notes in my perfumes. πŸ˜€

    1. Being in Seattle, I should become BFFs with Vitamin D but I haven’t been taking it in the summer. I probably should now as I haven’t left the house in a week.

Because I’ve been indoors, I’m finding myself attracted to musky and spicy stuff. I absolutely love Hedonist and the packaging is glorious (something I really don’t care about, but it matters with this one!)

You’ve mentioned a Guerlain that I’ve never tried.

I have a Geisha Noire story that I should share one day. I got it as a sample, put it on, went to a conservative meeting and I swear Geisha Noire kept trying to unbutton my shirt! It’s some sultry stuff.

I have found that most musks are boring in comparison to MKK!

  4. Rest, hydrate, and relax, please ma’am. For summer, I’ve really been into Bonne Bell Skin Musk. I wanted something light, yet comfortable at the same time. And, I came up with something from the drugstore! What do you think of it? A guy told me I smelled old, so now I don’t know. At the time, I thought it was kinda clever as I was keeping it simple. lol

    1. Bonne Bell Skin Musk is a rare item these days! It was (maybe still is) Sarah Jessica Parker’s favorite and was her inspiration for Lovely. I don’t think you smell old! I think it smells soft, light and well, pretty!

It’s so funny when it comes to other people’s perception of fragrance. My husband cracks me up. I was wearing Chanel Pour Monsieur in the summer heat and he said I smelled like “old ladies”…old man, I’d take that but not old lady. I mean, it has Monsieur in the title πŸ™‚

  5. Hope you feel better soon. I’m in the mood for Fall. I want to wear Imaginary Authors Memoirs of a Trespasser, Miller Harris La Fumee and CDG Avignon. I’m in the LA heat though and currently wearing Tocca Bianca, Atelier Cologne Trefle Pur, Falling into the Sea by Imaginary Authors and L’Occitane Verveine Sorbet. Trying to do a project pan and not buy make-up right now. Though i did buy most of the Maybelline Polka Dot nail polishes. Also got some awesome Korean face masks from a coworker. Wearing one right now and scaring my husband and son!

    1. Oh, those dry incenses (la Fumee and Avignon) do so well in the heat! I used to only wear them in cooler weather but I love what they do in the summer.

Before I got sick, I was wearing Atelier Trefle Pur and Orange Sanguine on rotation. I had a craving for fresh stuff.

I’m on a cosmetic no-buy but I have the newest Korean Vogue and the Francois Nars spread is speaking to me. Now I want orange and red eyeshadow and black lipstick, lol. I probably have stuff like that I can work with but…I’m bored. And I’m trying to talk myself out of another Inglot Freedom Palette.

Those Polka Dots are awesome. I don’t have any, I want the black one. Sold out at the drugstore closest to me.

Korean skincare is the best. That’s a coworker to hobnob with πŸ™‚

      1. Thank you for the tip. I’ve started wearing La Fumee and it’s working really well with the heat. I’ll probably get a craving for all the freshies in October or something!

    1. Hope you find some time to relax! Summer is my busy season with work so that’s why I’m finding it a little difficult to rest.

I am curious about those. Nice to hear that they are pleasing πŸ™‚

  6. Oh no! I really hope you feel better soon. Makeup wise I bought the Guerlain powder foundation with flecks of gold in it. It felt luxurious, but now I have at least 6 spots so its a no go for me. I will find a nice home for it. I have been confused about fragrance lately. I am wearing everything from Nahema to Tam Dao. I think I should stick to Infusion d’Iris and call it a day. Please take care of yourself!

    1. Bummer about the Guerlain. Foundation is such a gamble. Price has nothing to do with it, you just never know until you wear it for a few days. πŸ™

No fragrance has sounded really “good” to me but now that you mention Infusion d’Iris I think I could wear that.

  7. Hi Victoria,
My obsession has migrated from fragrance to makeup over the last couple of months, so I’ve been using mostly the summery Chanels in this sticky heat. I’ve been going a bit nuts with Sephora, though, since they started that “all you can eat” 2 day shipping deal, and among my finds is the Bite discovery set. Wow, what a great lipstick! Weightless and long lasting.
Also, I’m eagerly anticipating the Nordstrom Anniversary sale starting today. I believe that I’m spending more on makeup than I ever did on perfume, now where do I keep all this stuff?

    1. I’ve been curious about the Bite line. The colors are really pretty. I don’t need another lipstick but…I can’t help it πŸ˜‰

I love Nordstrom Anniversary. Usually I’m “prepared” for it but not this time.

Space is an issue for me too. Don’t be scared to purge old stuff, that’s the only advice that I can give. Oh, and maybe splurge on a really nice traincase or lucite drawer dividers πŸ˜‰

  8. I’m so sorry you’ve got pneumonia πŸ™ I wondered why I hadn’t seen you online much!

Today I have been wearing Olympic Orchids Lilith from The Devilscent Project, and MAN she is vibrant green and floral! She’s not kidding around I tell ya!! You could eat men for dinner with this one on.

It was really fun to try some of the other fragrances from the project other than my own.

I’m also diluting labdanum – a sticky job. But I smell good, so I don’t mind.

Make sure you rest enough so you get well soon Victoria!! Sending healthy vibes from Iowa πŸ™‚

    1. It’s kicked my butt but today I’m feeling much better than I did a week ago.

All of the perfumes I have tried from The Devilscent Project have been awesome. I haven’t tried them all but I like what I’ve tried.

Oh, labdanum. I could eat it with a spoon…well, not really but it’s delicious stuff πŸ™‚

      Thank you!

      1. Good that you’re doing a bit better <3 Pneumonia is nothing to mess around with!

I've got samples of all of Ellen's and Neil's submissions. I find them all to share different sides of the same characters. It's really cool how each of us took the same brief and interpreted it. It's been a great project to be a part of!

Yes, I agree. Labdanum should be eaten liberally with spoons πŸ˜‰

        1. It’s the ear infection that is driving me crazy now. It won’t budge.

I love that the indie perfume world can do these sorts of projects.

  9. Oh dear, must be something in the air. My niece just told me she has bronchitis, ear infection, sinus infection, and the start of some pink eye caused by all the other stuff. I hope you feel better quickly. Sometimes these things make you feel so bad that rest is easy to do. Take care.

    1. Awe, your poor niece! I feel like I rarely heard of this stuff happening in the summer, but I’m hearing more of it…especially ear/sinus infections. The ear infection is what has been making me so miserable!

  10. I’m so sorry to hear this! πŸ™ And in the summer, too. How miserable. I hope you’re on the mend soon.
