Mainstream Monday: Sniffing a Popular Perfume
It breaks my heart that Donna Karan Gold has been discontinued. It is such a beautiful floral. I know I’m being irrational, but I believe that most florals smell bad on me. Maybe they don’t. But, I do know that there are very few florals that I feel comfortable wearing, Donna Karan Gold is one of them.
Gold opens as a lily, a perfect lily that isn’t funereal or morose. It’s what I imagine being in an Old Hollywood star’s dressing room. It’s a humid, white casablanca lily. It really is large and velvety. There’s a hint of watery cucumber but don’t let that scare you. It adds a freshness. But, my warning is that it is “perfumery cucumber”; it’s there to add some green. This entire lily opening is so fresh and crisp; it dazzles. It’s like you can smell and feel the pollen. This is casablanca lily in 3-D. This wears this way and I do get a slightly indolic jasmine. This adds to the headiness. This is a diva bouquet! The dry down is warm amber and resins. This is when Gold becomes golden.
Notes listed include casablanca lily, acacia, white clove, gold pollen, jasmine, fluid amber patchouli, and golden balsams. PERFUMERS: Yann Vasnier, Calice Asancheyev-Becker, and Stephen Nilsen
Give Donna Karan Gold a try if you like Ormonde Jayne floral fragrances, Ineke Evening Edged in Gold, Cartier Baiser Vole, Lucy B. Australian Wild Jasmine and/or Estee Lauder Pleasures. And of course, when you can no longer find Donna Karan Gold, these will be nice fragrances to possibly “replace” Gold. That’s a sad thought.
For some stupid reason, Donna Karan Gold has been discontinued but you can still find it at discounters like Fragrancenet, Perfume Worldwide, and Perfume.com. Buy a bottle while you still can. I love the EDP but the EDT is lovely too. It’s a bit more “green” and crisp but equally stunning.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A beautiful lily fragrance, a crisp floral with a golden base. It just may be my favorite lily perfume. It’s so easy to wear and perfect, just perfect. Buy it up while you still can.
