Diptyque Olene EDT Perfume Review

Diptyque Olene EDT

If you want a jasmine that smells like jasmine but isn’t thick and heavy, try Diptyque Olene.

That’s a hell of a lot of jasmine. Olene opens with a ton of indolic jasmine and an old-fashioned wisteria. There are tea-like nuances in this fragrance. Olene starts out as strong. Olene is interesting in that it is so indolic but somehow it smells clean and almost like a soapy jasmine and honeysuckle. It doesn’t smell dirty or rotten, it smells sheer and crisp. The dry-down is a pretty honeyed jasmine that wears closer to the skin. It’s more subtle and I like it better at the dry down.

Olene starts out strong and mellows out with time. But, Olene isn’t as strong as let’s say Carolina Herrera or Montale Jasmin Full. It’s tenacious but not “thick” or heavy. And it’s not sweet like Fracas.

Notes listed include wisteria, jasmine, narcissus and honeysuckle. PERFUMER – Serge Kalouguine

Give Olen a try if you like jasmine. Don’t try it if you dislike jasmine 😉 Give it a try if you like perfumes like Annick Goutal Chevrefeuille, Estee Lauder Private Collection, L’Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons, original Marc Jacobs, and/or Annick Goutal Un Matin d’Orage. I find Olene to be very feminine.

Olene has above average projection and longevity. I actually preferred it dabbed over sprayed.

It is available at Nordstrom. It comes in 2 sizes with prices ranging from $88-$120.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONJasmine and honeysuckle. Strong but sheerer than most. I find it pretty but not something that I would wear. Or at least wear at this stage of my perfumed life.

  1. Ooooh! I will have to give this a sniff. I have been trying to find a good jasmine fragrance for my mother for her birthday. I feel kind of strange giving my mother a perfume as a gift, but I feel like I’ve been smelling her my whole life so I have a good idea what she likes!

    1. Buying for others is difficult but it has never stopped me, lol. I feel that most people want to smell nice and pretty. If somebody else thought it was a good choice, they usually think it is a good choice.
The good thing about this one is that it is carried a few different locations and I find that it’s not too hard to get a sample of it. Nordstrom has been very generous to me with this line when I show interest.

  2. Hi Victoria!
I love jasmine fragrances (white florals seem to be appealing to me more now that I’m in my thirties) and your description of this fragrance sounds like it would definitely be up my street … but! Your last comment that you wouldn’t wear this fragrance at this stage in your perfumed life … does this mean it is an “older” fragrance? Maybe something I should wait to consider wearing for say, oh, another thirty years? 😉

    1. You should try it! I don’t think this smells “older” at all. In the world of jasmines, this one has a youthful feel because it is green and crisp.

I’ve had white floral issues from day 1. However, each year they grow on me. As I swiftly approach thirty, I find that these big white florals are working for me. I see myself growing into this one within the next few years if I keep “growing” like this. That statement has nothing to do with age as a whole, but where I am right now with white florals.
