Diptyque Geranium Odorata EDT Perfume Review

Diptyque Geranium Odorata

I don’t even care for geranium as a note. So, when I saw the new Diptyque, Geranium Odorata, I didn’t go out of my way to sample it. To make a long story short, I ended up sampling it on a warm day on an impromptu sniffing spree. I was surprised by how much I was drawn to this fragrance. Maybe it was the heat, but I rather liked this fresh, cool tea-like scent.

Geranium Odorata opens with a bergamot and mint which reminds me of tea. There are dry “cool” spices. From a distance it’s like bergamot and cardamom. The geranium in this more understated. I mean, it’s geranium but it’s more of what geranium “can be” than what it is. So, it’s like citronella and lemony roses with green tea leaves. The dry-down is a white musk and sun-bleached white cedar (that reminds me of like cosmetic-y face powder).

I wish I could tell you why I like this one, but I can’t really. It’s fresh, cool and rather simple but that’s exactly what I want when it’s warm outside. Honestly, I think I like it because it reminds me of Ellena’s tea fragrances for Bvlgari, which I’ve always enjoyed. I do like that it plays with the many different aspects of geranium – green, floral, citrus and woodsy.

Notes listed include bergamot, geranium, pink pepper, tonka bean, vetiver and cedar. Launched 2014.

Or if you like perfumes like Bvlgari Eau Parfumee au The Vert, By Kilian Bamboo Harmony, Maria Candida Gentile Gentile, Demeter Always Happy and/or GAP The Visionary. Geranium Odorata is unisex. It’s less “sharp” than geranium scents marketed as masculine.

Projection and longevity are below average. Also, Dipqtyque makes these in a rollerball and I don’t get the point of this at all with this fragrance (and the rest of the “eaus”). This is one of those “spray liberally” scents that needs more surface to really show its nuances. A rollerball seems like a total waste of money in my opinion. If you need something for travel, buy the 3.4 oz and decant into a smaller spray atomizer.

The 3.4 oz EDT retails for $98. The .67 oz rollerball retails for $48 at Beautyhabit. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONBergamot geranium tea. Since I have boring tastes in the summer, this is something that I see myself wearing. Fresh, crisp and enjoyable.
