By Kilian Love & Tears EDP Perfume Review

By Kilian Love and Tears perfume

Love and Tears is the 9th fragrance in By Kilian’s Collection, L’Oeauvre Noire. It’s the “Surrender” scent and it’s a big jasmine soliflore. A big and beautiful jasmine soliflore. Now, the tears, this fragrance isn’t sad at all. I think, the tears come from your bank account when you buy this fragrance.

Love & Tears opens up as a very heady white floral with indolic jasmine and orange blossom. Boy, this jasmine is strong. Give it a few minutes, wait. Now sniff. Awe, it’s a huge jasmine but not skanky or filthy. The indoles settle. It’s clean, white, intoxicating. It’s pretty linear. It wears as this, what I’m calling, Jasmine-osauras-Rex. And then after a few hours, I get the dry-down. It’s still very much white floral, but more gentle and with a Mediterranean inspired evergreen that very much reminds me of the brush that grows so close to sea. I would call this a “green jasmine” because it is so fresh. I actually like this one better dabbed than sprayed.

Notes listed include bergamot, petit grain, cypress, jasmine, orange blossom, ylang-ylang and cistus. PERFUMER – Calice Becker

1940's femme fatale Ella Raines

Give Love & Tears a try if you are looking for a jasmine soliflore or if you like fragrances like Montale Jasmin Full, Serge Lutens A La Nuit, Annick Goutal Un Matin d’Orage, Nasomatto Nuda, Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Jasminora and/or Prada Infusion de Fleur d’Oranger. I consider Love & Tears to be a very feminine fragrance.

The 1.7 oz spray of this perfume retails for $225 at Luckyscent.

Victoria’s Final EauPINION – A very big white floral, heavy on jasmine and orange blossom, a “green jasmine”. Big and beautiful but I like Serge Lutens A La Nuit better. This is what I’m telling myself 😉

  1. Love & Tears is my ultimate jasmine. I find it almost parfum strength and just a few dabs leave me wonderfully jasmine-y all day. Adore this & want the candle! I can so see you in this- ladylike & elegant yet mysterious. Perfect photo!

    1. I agree. I do think of this as a “parfum”. Forgot to mention how much my husband loves this one.

Ella Raines was so beautiful! And the sequins in this picture are very elegant, not Vegas at all!

  2. LOL, crying over your bank account! Sad but true…

I really want to sample By Killian line. Not so long ago, I was sure I wouldn’t like the perfumes…what was I thinking?
This jasmine sounds gorgeous. Another to add to the list!

    1. At first, I hated the Kilians. Why? The price. What an expectation? Now trying them in samples and knowing that travel sizes are available. I feel “better” and I have started trying them again. I think they are good. Not all are for me, but they are easy to wear.

  3. I’m not a big fan a heavy florals. I have By Kilian’s Incense Oud on my wish list, but the price is a real kicker for me. Still I am eager to try this line. The photo is old school elegance, gorgeous.

    1. Heavy florals are an “every now and then” thing for me. Now, Incense Oud and Rose Oud are more my speed.

  4. Love & Tears is the first perfume from this line that I really liked. Not just appreciated or acknowledged as a beautiful creation but liked as a perfume. I have a sample of it but I’m still waiting for the mood to test it properly.
Would you wear it if you wouldn’t have to upset your bank account?

    1. It’s so silly of me, but I thought about it. I would probably purchase a bottle of this if it was under $150. Of course, I would think about it long and hard and use my sample completely up, etc. And even then, I’d get the smallest size manufactured. But, I do want something beautiful like this in my collection. It’s one of the rare perfumes that I enjoy wearing and my husband enjoys smelling on me.

I wear this and feel very pretty. Isn’t that one of the reasons we wear perfume?
