I really liked the subversive quality of the vintage-feeling floral perfume Seyrig by indie perfumery Bruno Fazzolari. Because I liked that one, my perfume pals kept urging me to try Au Delà, a floral chypre. While Seyrig had a subtle punk/alt-cult feel, Au Delà doesn’t. This is the sort of perfume that smells like it would be sold in the 1950’s in fancy shops in Paris.
Au Delà is like an aldehydic orange blossom with coriander. It’s a dry, green floral with a brut effervescence. This opening is delightfully vintage-y. So many vintage perfumes “turn” with age and the top notes are the first to go. Smelling Au Delà’s opening is exactly how I imagine perfume shopping would smell like if I was able to time travel to 60+ years ago. As Au Delà blossoms on the skin, it becomes an indolic white floral over a sweet yet animalic amber. When it comes to being animalic, this perfume is not shy. This is the sort of indoles you’d find in vintage perfumes. Because it seems so “out of place” with today’s perfumes, it reminds me of the glamour of Old Hollywood. It’s sultry with perfectly brushed out curls and long, feathery lashes. The dry-down of Au Delà is like velvet. It’s a mossy amber that has become one of my favorite chypre bases.
This is such a gorgeous perfume. I rarely through this word around, but Au Delà is perfect.
Notes listed include Italian bergamot, coriander, neroli, Egyptian jasmine, French orange flower, oakmoss, amber and immanence. Launched in 2013. PERFUMER – Bruno Fazzolari
Give Au Dela a try if you like floral chypres, vintage florals or jasmine perfumes. Or if you like perfumes like Estee Lauder Azuree, April Aromatics Jasmina, Balmain Miss Balmain, Chanel Cristalle EDP, Coty Masumi (vintage), DSH Perfumes Vert Pour Madame and/or Norell.
Projection is average. Longevity is above average.
The 1 oz bottle retails for $110 at Bruno Fazzolari, Twisted Lily and Luckyscent. Samples are also available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Indolic jasmine chypre. An absolute beauty. It’s a must-try for anyone that is drawn to vintage or vintage-style perfumes.

I know I have samples of this brand somewhere! I definitely need to come up with a better way of organizing my many samples.
You and me both! I *know* I have things but can’t find them.
And I have samples of this line and forgot. Ooops.
You got me to get a few samples and now that I love it, I can’t find it. It’s been sold out everywhere! Sad face.
It really reminded me of Rochas Femme- the vintage version, but I’m too scared to try the new version. Although now that I write this, I’m sniffing a sample of Lutens’ Bois Vanille that I’m currently trying, that suddenly smells very familiar. It may be because I have a little bit of Guerlain Terracotta peeking thru. Anyway, I’m still sad. Any suggestions besides the ones you have listed above?
Now I have a sad face 🙁 I’m sick of the good stuff being messed with!
This one brings to mind vintages for sure but we know that’s not really feasible. DSH Perfumes does vintage so well. I’d start maybe with Vert Pour Madame or maybe Deco Diamonds or maybe even the richer/darker Mata Hari. They have great customer service too. I bet if you emailed like “Hey, I want something that reminds me of vintage Rochas Femme with some bright aldehydes” that they will have some suggestions (because DSH knows vintages so well).
Thanks for the suggestions! DSH was on my “next to try” list.
The selections can be sooo overwhelming when on the site. However, having a few starting points is nice 🙂 And reaching out via email is good too. I know DSH has to have something similar-ish or at least vintage-y in the same vein.
