Arquiste Anima Dulcis EDP Perfume Review

Arquiste Anima Dulcis perfume

Anima Dulcis is by far the most sophisticated chocolate perfume on the market. It’s not too sweet. It isn’t paired with overpowering notes like patchouli or sandalwood. Anima Dulcis is chocolate perfume done right.

Anima Dulcis is a sweet and spicy Mexican hot chocolate. In the top I get a little bit of citrus with a “vanilla orchid” floral. The cocoa is present from the beginning. It’s dry, dark and delicious. The heart of this fragrance gets creamier with vanilla scented steamed milk and cocoa powder. And I swear I get ylang ylang. The dry-down is spicy, dark and delicious.

In my experience, I prefer Anima Dulcis on a man. It seems to “go” less sweet on guys and more spicy and funky. I mean it smells good on my skin (more of a floral chocolate) but it does something special on a man.

Notes listed include cocoa absolute, Mexican vanilla, cinnamon and chili. PERFUMERS – Rodrigo Flores-Roux and Yann Vasnier

Give Anima Dulcis a try if you are looking for a sophisticated chocolate gourmand. Or if you like perfumes like Bond No. 9 New Haarlem, Comptoir du Pacifique Amour de Cacao, Bvlgari Omnia, and/or Nasomatto Pardon. Anima Dulcis is unisex and I already provided my 2 cents above. What I like about Anima Dulcis is that it isn’t overly sweet. This is a chocolate/vanilla that you can wear in warm climates just as easily as cool climates.

Anima Dulcis has average projection and longevity. I think it benefits from at least 2 sprays.

The 1.9 oz bottle of Anima Dulcis retails for $165 at Beautyhabit. Samples are also available for purchase.

  1. That review by Portia is hysterical!! Thanks for linking to it. Well, you, Portia, Ines … actually, practically the whole perfume blogosphere seems to agree that this is the most well-done chocolate perfume out there. I’ve got to get with the program and smell it!

    1. I was like “why should I bother reviewing? Portia has said it all” – It’s a good perfume if you are looking for chocolate.

  2. I’ve been wanting to try this for a while and I always keep getting distracted by other things. I bet I’d like it on the hubby but I don’t know if I could get him to wear it.

    1. My secret for getting it on the hubby is to not tell him what it is. This is a good perfume but I love to smell it on a guy. It gets spicier, has more depth.
