A lot of people do “Anti-Hauls” on Youtube. If you aren’t familiar with these, these are videos where people talk about what they aren’t buying. With so many launches, I love the premise of this. It gives us a reason to talk about what’s new without actually participating in this makeup economy of “BUT THIS LIMITED EDITION THING!”. Here’s my version, sans video. Here’s my additional comments¹.
There sure were a lot of eyeshadow palettes launched in June. The beauty industry sure wants to convince us that our lids should be rusty hued or the colors of parrot feathers.
Here’s some things that have launched or will be launching soon that have been receiving hype in the Beauty World.
Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette
I’ve slowly warmed up to the Heat Palette over the month. The first swatches that came out looked absolutely terrible. As it got in more hands, it looks like the palette is really pretty and with a wider range than other Naked palettes (looks especially pretty on deeper complexions). However, I don’t need it at all. It’s an easily dupable item (NYX has something like it, also the palette mentioned below). Swatches here.
Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Eyeshadow Palette
Talk me out of this. I don’t need it. I have stuff like it. However, I love how these shades are all together. It really is a great palette to “have it all” when creating IG-worthy eye makeup looks. I don’t need it. Swatches here. Also, am I the only person annoyed by these gigantic palettes?
Juvia’s Place The Zulu Palette
It’s a perfectly fine palette but I don’t wear bright shades like that too often. The swatches look amazing though. I guess if you don’t have something like this and want to play in bright colors, it’s a great one to buy. Swatches here.
BH Cosmetics x Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition Palette
I have the original palette and to my surprise, love it. I’m actually pissed that they launched another one with the same 10 shades. That’s annoying because I don’t need to buy another but I’m missing out on some shades that I’d probably use. Plus, recycling content like this is lazy. Swatches here.
Tatcha Violet – C Radiance Mask
People always tell me that it must be difficult reviewing fragrance, but I think skincare is more difficult. Everyone is so different and have different needs/expectations. The citrus/fruit ingredients in this one would most likely set my skin on fire. Plus, it’s just so expensive. I’d rather splurge on a Vitamin C serum than a mask. Plus, this pale purple mask just exists to be Instagram’d. Here’s one of the few reviews out.
It’s a lot of blue. A lot of blue. It’s inspired by 3D printing, tech, blah blah. Anyway, not really feeling this. And if I were, I’d just buy some cheap NYX stuff or something. More info here.
TEMPTATIONS YA’LL
Mugler Aura
Listen, I’m such a Mugler stan that I’ll buy any of it. I don’t care if Aura smells like Love’s Baby Soft and Taco Bell. I want that green bottle. Review here.
Pat McGrath Matte Trance Lipstick (launching July 13th)
There’s no way I’m going to spend the dough on these ($38 each), but they really are pretty. And I love Pat McGrath. It’s a temptation but also should be in the category above. I don’t think I’ll spend this much on these. More info and pics here.
So, what do you think? What are your anti-hauls? What are your newly launched temptations? Any makeup/fragrance rants?
¹ Oh, and here I am quoted in The Outline. I’m sure not fighting capitalism talking about luxury consumer products so that’s an overstatement. But, I feel like these make me a more conscious consumer and evaluate what I want, own and what gives me joy.
I’ve been using nothing but my Jaclyn Hill pallette. I’m glad a went crazy and bought it in the initial rush for it and didn’t listen to the negative reviews. The value is good I think and i don’t have a lot of warm shadows (i tend to gravitate to cooler ones) so i don’t have a lot of dupes for it yet. Plus the purples and taupey metallics in it are GORGEOUS
Will not be buying Naked Heat. There is only one shade in it that I was super drawn to.
The Jaclyn Hill palette looks sooo pretty. I’m so drawn to the jewel tones and the metallics. I like the warm shades but I already have so many (a large and small palette from Morphe has me more than covered). I also like cool shades, lol. If I didn’t go crazy in the past 8 months buying shadow palettes, I would have jumped on this one. It has a lot…and it’s all together.
Naked Heat is prettier than I thought it would be, but it doesn’t offer me anything I don’t already have. Personally, if I want warm sunset, I’m going to use my ABH Modern Renaissance palette. And if I want warm browns, I’m going to wear the Morphes that I have. But, I get why they added it to their Naked collection. I have a friend that wears foundations like MAC NC45 and Heat is the UD Naked palette for her.
Those Pat McGrath lipsticks are gorgeous! I want a red one even though I have a million reds, many of which I paid way too much for (looking at Tatcha’s Kyoto Red.)
Haha. Story of my life. At this stage, I have all the reds. But, I can’t resist them. Red is still what I’m drawn to when there’s a new collection of lipsticks launched. I bet Pat’s red is really good.
Oh, that Tatcha Red is so gorgeous. I mean, you mostly pay for packaging since there are great reads at cheaper price points, but geez, that Tatcha’s is so luxurious.
