Anti-Haul July 2017

A lot of people do “Anti-Hauls” on Youtube. If you aren’t familiar with these, these are videos where people talk about what they aren’t buying. With so many launches, I love the premise of this. It gives us a reason to talk about what’s new without actually participating in this makeup economy of “BUT THIS LIMITED EDITION THING!”. Here’s my version, sans video. Here’s my additional comments¹.

Here’s some things that have launched or will be launching soon that have been receiving hype in the Beauty World:

Bite Nearly Neon

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Nearly Neon Collection

I love Bite lipsticks but I’m not really feeling any of these shades. I already have products like this that were less than $26 a tube. | Swatches

BH Cosmetics Back to Brazil

BH Cosmetics Take Me Back to Brazil Eyeshadow Palette

If it is actually as bright as it appears in the pan, it could be a great palette to have. I think I’ll pass and go for the Sephora (mentioned in the next section). | Swatches

Comme de Garcons Concrete

Comme de Garcons Concrete

I was so excited for this. Sniffed it and it was so boring. | Review

Kat von D Shade & Light Glimmer

Kat von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Contour Palette

<meh> I mean there are so many palettes with these colors. And if you don’t have one, just wait until Makeup Revolution dupes it. | Swatches

MAC Girls Personality

MAC Girls Personality Collection Palettes (Launching in August)

None of these really stand out to me. I don’t like the packaging either. It looks sort of cheap and Hard Candy-ish. However, I’m so tempted by the one that says “Pussy Princess”. Oh, wait. It doesn’t say that. It says “Prissy Princess”. My bad.

Also, aren’t these the stupidest concepts/names for girls’ personalities ever? They’re so negative and superficial. If you do see some of these you like, my advice is to wait. I have a feeling this line is going to backfire on them and they’re going to be discounted. | More info

Hourglass Confession Lipstick

Hourglass Confession Ultra Slim High Intensity Lipstick

This seems like something I’d love because I love Hourglass lipsticks. However, this isn’t resonating with me. Is it because the packaging is impractical? Is it because the colors are the usual? Is it because I’m now a public health fuddy duddy that doesn’t like the cigarette reference? I don’t know. Maybe this will grow on me if I see them in person but as for right now, it’s a pass. | Swatches galore.

TEMPTATIONS, YA’LL

Sephora Pro Palette

Sephora Pro Palette

These are getting some buzz online. My friend bought two and I was able to play in them. I loved them. Yes, there’s some powder kickback but the pigment is insane. The sparkle shades need applied with fingers or a sponge for maximum BAM. I mean, we all sort of want something different with makeup and these do what I want them to do. I plan on buying Cool and Editorial. I shall see. |Swatches of Cool | Swatches of Warm | Swatches of Editorial

Anastasia Beverly Hills Lipstick

Anastasia Beverly Hills Matte Lipstick

FINALLY. Tube lipstick. This probably isn’t that big of a deal but I’m a lipstick addict. And I love ABH. The shades Cool Brown and Dead Roses are really standing out to me. | More info

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture

Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Palette

One of the best makeup purchases I ever did was to buy Modern Renaissance. So, I’m hoping this palette is of the same quality. I’m on the fence about it because of the shades. But, the more I look at it, the more I want it. I’ll see if my mind changes once I see more swatches. | Video swatches | UPDATE – The swatches and videos are out and this palette looks like it is a disappointment. They aren’t showing up! So, I think this is a pass.

ColourPop Fem Rosa

ColourPop Fem Rosa Collection

OK, I know I have shades like this but look at all the roses. I love roses. Rose prints are my weakness. Talk me out of this, please. | Swatches

Other thoughts:

MAC is now offering mini lipsticks for $10. Isn’t that genius? I mean, it takes me forever to use up a tube of lipstick (if ever). I love this.

I bought that L’Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara. It is AMAZING. It’s getting a lot of hype but it should. It’s an amazing mascara for the money. I shall see how it ages, but right now, I love it. It makes my short, light and stubborn lashes look like falsies.

So, what do you think? What are your anti-hauls? What are your newly launched temptations? Any makeup/fragrance rants?

¹ Oh, and here I am quoted in The Outline. I’m sure not fighting capitalism talking about luxury consumer products so that’s an overstatement. But, I feel like these make me a more conscious consumer and evaluate what I want, own and what gives me joy.

  1. I couldn’t agree more with you about the new MAC releases. Except for the blush colors, they look like those Eyeshadows by 9s in far worse packagings! And I love Lash Paradise mascara myself. I’ve been a long time Voluminous user but might fully convert. 🙂

    1. They do, don’t they?! I prefer the classic packaging. It’s more durable. I’m not a fan of cardboard palettes anyway.

Voluminous is a great mascara so it says a lot if Lash Paradise won you over!

  2. I’m really tempted by the Bite neons. I’ve got a bunch of different bright orange lipsticks and none of them are really exactly what I want. The Bite orange seems like it might do the trick, I’ll have to go check it out.

At the same time, I really don’t need any more lipstick. Like, at all. But that’s not really the point, is it?

I hope you’re having a great time in Budapest!

    1. It’s worth sampling if that’s what you want. I’ve been pleased with their formula which isn’t drying and has full-coverage pigment. There’s one from Milani that reminds me of the Bite Neon Orange, Sweet Nectar. I’ve recently came to the conclusion that my favorite oranges on me are MAC Morange and YSL Le Orange. Will this stop me from buying orange lipsticks in the future? Sadly, the answer is no.

I had a great time! Got in late Friday night after a crummy reroute flight BUT I’m home!

  3. Glad to see I’m not the only person who loathes the names of the MAC Girls palettes. I mean, really? That’s how we want our “personalities” represented? And the color selections don’t look like anything to write home about either. Pass.

But I may have to give the Lash Paradise a try. My lashes are naturally long, but dark at the roots and blonde at the tips. And though I have length, I definitely need more volume.

    1. I find them disappointing. MAC has a history of working with creative types, activists and artists. It’s a shame to see them think this is what their customers want. I think they are trying so hard to join the “influencer” market that it’s coming across as desperate and disconnected from their audience/customer base. I expect more from them than some superficial “personalities”. In addition, I don’t like the packaging. I prefer their sleek, minimal MAC packaging. Anyway, all I can say is that this collection doesn’t appeal to me or any of my desired personality traits.

I would love to hear how this works on the um, the naturally gifted. It’s such an easy mascara for me to work with that I bet one coat would work for you (a lot of pigment). I just love that it’s cheap and actually does what it says it will do.

  4. I really hate the concept of those MAC palettes. And I feel like BITE is losing track of its core identity.

However, now I want a lipstick called Dead Roses, too…

    1. The MAC Collection gets on my nerves. It’s silly and just the graphic design of the palettes are atrocious.

I don’t know what Bite is trying to do these days. They’ve had some good ideas in the past. But, it looks like now they are launching liquid lipsticks and trying to get into that IG/YT guru market…or something. I feel old.

Seriously, I’d buy Dead Roses just for the name alone.

  5. I bought the Anastasia Beverly Hills matte in Ruby, and I have been loving it. It is a really comfortable matte, not drying, and has great color. I like it better than the Tatcha Kyoto red, and it is less than half of the price.

    1. Lalalala not listening! You know I have a lipstick problem, lol.

They had a promo a few weeks ago where you could buy 2 lip products (including the new lipsticks) and get one free. I somehow managed to refrain. And now I’m regretting that.
