Amouroud Miel Sauvage Perfume Review

Amouroud Miel Sauvage

Amouroud is a new perfume line. Don’t worry. I rolled my eyes too when I heard about them. Another brand dedicated to oud?! It’s 2017. Haven’t we had enough of that?! Maybe we have, but I think this is the reality of modern perfumery. Oud has nowhere to go except for in perfume bottles. I’ve tried all of the Amouroud perfumes and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Oud isn’t the lead singer, it’s more of a backup dancer in these compositions.

As someone that likes honey in perfume, I was immediately drawn to Miel Sauvage.  Miel Sauvage opens with spiced, stewed plums. It’s followed by humid white florals and smoky incense. Now let’s get to the honey. Miel Sauvage is a honey fragrance. The note is animalic, sweet and slightly powdery. It never turns pissy on me. It smells like ooey-gooey honey. This honey sticks to the heady tropical florals (like ylang-ylang) and hot spices. The heart of Miel Sauvage reminds me of a sweet, honeyed pipe tobacco and jasmine/sandalwood incense. The dry-down of Miel Sauvage is a soft woodsy incense with sandalwood and patchouli. The honey at this stage is powdery, soft and reminiscent of clover.

Since it’s so honey-heavy, I imagine it’ll be a difficult perfume for some people. On my skin, Miel Sauvage is delightful. It’s warm, sweet, spicy. My only real complaint is that the honey is almost too elegant…it could be a little more animalic.  And where’s the oud? I don’t really know. Sandalwood was the only wood that stood out to me in this.

Give Miel Sauvage a try if you like honey or incense perfumes. Or perfumes like Serge Lutens Chergui, Serge Lutens Miel de Bois, ScentStory 24 Gold Elixir, Lancôme Oud Ambroisie, Montale Honey Aoud, By Kilian Back to Black and/or Paco Rabanne 1 Million.

Projection is average. Longevity is above average.

The 3.4 oz bottle retails for $200 at Osswald.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONHoney and incense. It’s rare that I find a honey-centric perfume that actually smells like A. honey or B. not like cat urine. So my final “eaupinion”, I love it.

  1. “Longevity is above average.” Sounds like my kind of scent, since so many disappear on me within an hour.

On a completely different note, had you heard Lancome has just put out two new rose scents in their Grand Crus line? Knowing your love for rose fragrances . . . and they sound heavenly.

    1. Probably will just be average on you 🙂 I did wear it on a warmer day (and it oddly worked). It didn’t wear as long but still made it through the day.

Oh, I read about these! I have not tried them but they sound so much like something I’d be into.
