Alchemologie Foret de la Mer Natural Perfume Review

Alchemologie Foret de la Mer

One of the things that I’m missing about Washington, now that it’s summer, is the lavender. This is the time of year that we’d go up the Olympic peninsula and sniff lavender in the rain shadow. Weekends of acres and acres of lavender, warm pleasant weather with a salt water breeze. It was a summer ritual and now I miss it. However, when I tried the newest release from natural indie line Alchemologie, I’m a little closer to this summer ritual. Foret de la Mer is like lavender fields by the coast.

Foret de la Mer opens as salty licorice and mineral lavender. It’s sweet and aquatic. It starts to wear as an orange blossom honey with a field of lavender on a hot, dry summer day. In the heart, humid floral embrace dried lavender buds. The base is sweet and balsamic with oakmoss and tonka bean.

Foret de la Mer is a fougère that will appeal to people that like modern, neo-aquatics and people that like vintage-style perfumes. I can’t think of many that blur these two, but Foret de la Mer does. It blurs modern and vintage.

Notes listed include bergamot, wild sweet orange, lavender, champaca, orange blossom, tonka bean, oakmoss, ambrette and choya nak. Launched in 2015. PERFUMER – Julianne Zaleta

Give Foret de la Mer a try if you like lavender scents or modern, neo-aquatics. Or if you like perfumes like Annick Goutal Eau de Lavande, Au Pays de la Fleur d’Oranger Lavande Ombree, Olympic Orchids Kingston Ferry, Histoires d’Eaux Mon Jardin d’Hiver and/or Ayala Moriel Orcas. , Being based on a traditional fougère, Foret de la Mer leans more masculine but I find it rather unisex.

Projection and longevity are above average. And that is surprising for a natural perfume.

The 1/2 oz perfume retails for $70 at Alchemologie. Samples are also available for purchase.

Victoria’s Final EauPINIONSalty fougère. I like it because it reminds me of summers in Washington.

  1. Victoria, thank you so much for the kind words! I’m so happy you enjoyed the perfume. Hope you’re staying cool in this swampy weather we’re experiencing!

  2. Sounds truly lovely, Victoria.
I can understand your missing of lavender; I have always had a lot of it my life in our garden and home and don’t know how I’d feel if suddenly when I walk into my back garden I couldn’t take a whiff. There is something really timeless and dreamy about the essence of lavender.
Foret de la Mer certainly sounds interesting; I haven’t smelled liquorice with lavender in the past but I can imagine them going well, a combination that’s perhaps nostalgic and magic? Also love the presence of oakmoss in a lavender fragrance, always.

    1. Lavender really is relaxing! It’s so calming.

It really is a gorgeous fragrance. I need more “soothing” scents in my life.
