Aftelier Wild Roses is inspired by perfumer Mandy Aftel’s garden. It’s meant to come across like walking around and smelling all of the flowers, not a soliflore but more of a “multiflore”. For me it’s a very synesthetic fragrance. I smell it in colors.
Coral, vermilion, hot pink, lilac with “flickers” of yellow curry that fades into a deep royal purple. Wild Roses comes at me as a swirl of bold colors reminding me of vintage Pucci prints. Wild Roses opens with a vanilla-heliotrope rose with natural, dazzling aldehydes. I immediately love it. I get hints of fruity, juicy raspberry with honeyed roses. And then I get smitten by the apricot. It’s perfect. I get lost in this perfume. It’s not a “hazy” perfume but it puts me in that state. I’m lost in its swirl of colors and transitioning aromas. The heart is floral, juicy, fruity with herbal greenness from one of my favorite notes, tarragon. The dry-down is a creamy vanilla and rich patchouli that stands before you like the glamazon Veruschka.
Notes listed include rose, heliotropin, bergamot, geraniol, m-methyl anthranilate, damascenone, apricot, Turkish rose, pimento berry, p-ethyl alcohol, tarragon, vanilla, indole and aged patchouli. Launch date 2012. PERFUMER – Mandy Aftel
Give Wild Roses a try if you like fruity roses or honeyed roses. Or if you like perfumes like Guerlain Nahema, DSH Perfumes Pretty & Pink, By Kilian In the City of Sin, and/or Lancôme Trésor. Wild Roses is natural but you don’t have to be a fan of naturals to love it. I perceive Wild Roses being more feminine.
Wild Roses in the EDP form has average projection and below average longevity for an EDP but average longevity for a natural perfume.
Wild Roses comes in a parfum and EDP. I have reviewed the EDP. The 1 oz EDP retails for $170 at Aftelier.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Psychedelic rose. I smell this one in color…lots of color. It’s inspired me to paint again. Thank you Mandy for recharging my creativity.

Thanks for sharing it with me!
Really diggin’ your review of this perfume, Victoria. Pucci prints and synesthesia, yes!
To me it seemed the most cinematic, time-based perfume i have smelled so far. I can imagine walking through the garden, smelling each different rose on its own, in real time. A real treat.
It’s a gorgeous perfume and one of my favorite roses.
Mandy modeled it after her own garden, more of a mix of flowers meant to evoke a garden rather than a rose. She did a good job with that 🙂
