Aftelier Bergamoss is the newest solid perfume in the line. It’s exactly as the name implies. It’s a mix of bright fruits and forest moss, a throwback chypre.
Bergamoss opens with as a shade of coral. It’s like peach nectar and orange pulp. However, this scent is a chypre and it’s all about the moss. It’s peaches, oranges and a warm, dry moss. The spices in this don’t add heat but they add a dry woodiness like bark on a forest floor. Bergamoss dries down to a classic, balsamic chypre base of dry moss and tobacco/vanilla like coumarin and hay. It’s like sunshine and forests.
I’m actually surprised by how prominent the peach is one my skin (especially after reading other reviews). So much of the wear on me is like “balsamic peach” and dry moss. If it wear colors, it goes from a pale coral shade and fades into an olive green.
Notes listed include bergamot, sweet orange, peach, citronellol, nutmeg, oakmoss, flouve, coumarin and antique civet. Launched in 2015. PERFUMER – Mandy Aftel
Give Bergamoss a try if you like chypres or moss. Or if you like perfumes like Guerlain Mitsouko, Rochas Femme, DSH Perfumes Vert Pour Madame, Estee Lauder Aliage and/or Hiram Green Shangri La.
Bergamoss is a solid perfume so it wears closely to the skin. Longevity is above average in comparison to other solids that I’ve tried. The formula of Aftelier solids are silky smooth. They glide on the skin easily and do not feel waxy or too oily.
The 1/4 oz solid perfume retails for $240 at Aftelier. Samples are also available for purchase.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Fruity chypre. It’s like sunshine and forests.

Hi Victoria,
How lovely that you got a peachy chypre. Is it at all like Mitsouko or Femme?

On me, it’s like natural Mitsouko, very pretty 🙂
I really like Mitsouko and bet I would like this but rumor has it she is not doing samples of it. Is this true?
There are samples online. They’re small but she’s selling ’em.
What a wonderful review Victoria! I always appreciate your terrific sense of style and very savvy writing, thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing it with me!
