I don’t know if I told you guys this, but I’m trying to grow out my hair. And yes, I’ve said this before. And yes, I have no patience and immediately get it cut as soon as it hits below the chin. I really like short hair but sometimes it feels like it lacks “umph” because it’s been cut that way for so long. So yes, I only want to grow my hair out to cut it short again…for maximum impact.
Anyway, this is a review of ABL, A Beautiful Life, Unicorn’s Mane Smoothing Serum. I’m finding that if one is to (attempt to) grow out their hair, they need really good products to make the hair appear healthy.
The claims: Unicorn’s Mane contains ingredients to nourish hair, improve elasticity, reduce breakage, add luster and smooths the hair’s cuticle.
Ingredient list: Cyclomethicone (derived from sand), Dimethicone (derived from sand), Argan Oil (argania spinosa), Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Indian Gooseberry (Emblica Officinalis) Extract, Pomegranate (Punica Granatum Linn) Seed Oil, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis) Seed Extract, Fragrance.
The brand does a great job of showing you their ingredients and then telling you why they use them if you visit their site (link at the end of the post).
The texture: It’s a thicker oil but it does feel light-weight. It has a nice amount of “slip” so a little goes a long way.
The fragrance: It smells like Skittles. Original Skittles. Old lady rant – I noticed the other day while waiting in a drugstore line that there are so many different varieties of Skittles. I only excuse this behavior in Japanese Kit-Kats, not Skittles.
Quick reminder of my hair type: Super thick, super straight, super coarse. It’s color-treated and sometimes I heat style. I don’t have major hair concerns but I do want my hair to be look healthy and shiny.
My experience: My hair absolutely loves this oil (but in all fairness, my hair seems to love oils). I apply a small amount to damp hair and air dry. My hair is left so smooth that I was going to make it greasy by touching it so much out of amazement.
The world is filled with hair oils/serums. And my thick, coarse straight hair seems to love all of them. When I encounter one that I dislike, it will be shocking. That is my disclaimer. However, I can say that I really like Unicorn’s Mane because it makes my hair feel and look really good…and that’s exactly what I want from a hair serum.
The 1.7 oz bottle retails for $16 at ABL Brands.
