It’s back to school time. And even though, I’ve long been out of school and I don’t have children, I was oddly haunted by one of those cliché “Oh, no! You really didn’t earn a diploma so you’re going to have come back for this course” dreams. The dream didn’t end up in Jerri Blank “Strangers with Candy” mode, but it was just me cursing and really pissed about this delay in recognizing such a mix up. What’s up with those stupid dreams? Anyway, I woke up with school on the mind and A Beautiful Life Composition seemed like an appropriate review for today.
Composition is a cool fragrance that opens with chrome-like aldehydes and new copier paper. It’s sharp, crisp yet light. There’s also a green apple and vodka (because it’s time to celebrate that the kids are back in school, right?). It’s like green apple hard candies with lime zest and lead mechanical pencil refills. Composition wears as a tart apple with a sheer, vanilla-ish musk. The dry-down must have a lot of white musk because I don’t really notice it but other people say I smell “good’.
Overall, I’ve enjoyed wearing this much more than I ever thought I would. I mean it is a prominent “green appletini” thing going on and I still dig wearing it. I like it because it’s light, refreshing for hot, humid wear yet it’s quirky and weird. It’s not the typical thing I would wear and it’s not a typical fruity or citrus scent.
Notes listed include graphite, bleached white paper, green apple and wool. Launched in 2014.
Or perfumes like Malle Outrageous!, Calvin Klein CK1, Andrea Maack Dark, Comme des Garcons EDP, Comme des Garcons Odeur 53, Blackbird Mizuchi and/or Le Labo Ambrette 9. If you like the style of the “weirder” CdGs or like stuff like Malle Outrageous!, this is would you should try. And because it’s approachable with the sour apple, citrus and sheer musk, I’d recommend it as a great unisex teen fragrance that is more interesting than the typical stuff marketed to teens. This is actually cool and it’s rather affordable (in comparison to other EDPs sold at places like Sephora).
Projection and longevity wears more like an EDT than an EDP in my opinion. But, I think I don’t notice the base notes on myself.
The 2 oz bottle retails for $52 at A Beautiful Life.
Also, $3 of every bottle sold is donated to The National Center for Transgender Equality. One more reason to love and support all these wonderful indie brands.
Victoria’s Final EauPINION – Office supplies and a green apple martini. It’s fun, ironic and I don’t have to justify why I’ve enjoyed smelling like this (other than it’s fun).
Off topic – But, that composition notebook in that picture is from 2001. And it’s filled with some weirdo writing that has reminded me that I should start creative writing again. During the move, I found all my stuff like that. I miss writing into notebooks that nobody will see.
