A 2010 Dark Chocolate Brown Nail Color Guide

Chocolate brown nail color guide

I think it has been long enough and chocolate brown nail polish is ready to be back. Chocolate brown is dark but it’s warm undertones work nicely with warm skin tones, better than black. I’m thinking dark chocolate here or Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Here’s 15 bitter chocolate nail polishes in a variety of price points to get you started 🙂 If you know of any to add this guide/list, please do. It’s easy to overlook brands.

Under $9 Brown Nail Color: Elf Nail Polish in Chocolate is a budget friendly dark chocolate satin shade. It retails for $1, yeah, can’t beat that price. Sinful Colors Nail Enamel in Buster’s Brown (not pictured) is a shimmery brown with hints of red. It retails for $2. Maybelline Express Finish Nail Color in Mocha Blast is a deep, almost black brown. It retails for about $4. Milani Nail Lacquer in Brown-a-licious is yummy brown shimmer with copper. It retails for about $4.50. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Mochachino (not pictured) is a shimmery dark brown with coppery red shimmers. It retails for $5. I’ve been happy with the formula and this color is beautiful.Revlon Nail Enamel in Hot For Chocolate is a sexy, satin deep chocolate shade. I love the color but I find the formula takes forever to dry! Retails for $5. Borghese Nail Lacquer in Espresso Brown is a shimmery dark brown with hints of warm burgundy. This product retails for $8. Essie Nail Colour Polish in Chocolate Kisses is a satin rich chocolate. It retails for $8. OPI Nail Lacquer in Suzi Says Da! is a rich dark chocolate with a hint of red and lots of shine. It retails for $8. Sephora by OPI in I’m With Brad Nail Colour (not pictured) is a beautiful color described as “opaque metallic wine over dark coffee”. I like to think of a more decadent version of red wine and chocolate. It’s a deep chocolate with wine shimmer and retails for $9. I love this color and formula.

Over $9 Brown Nail Color: Sparitual Nail Lacquer in Hush is a muddy brown and Shimmer Shrewd (not pictured) is a deeep shimmery chocolate brown. Both colors retail for $10. Priti Nail Polish in Floral Dance is a matte dark brown, a great black alternative. It retails for $12.50. Butter London Nail Lacquer in Tramp Stamp is a satin, rich milk chocolate. This formula retails for $14. Deborah Lippmann Nail Lacquer in Maneater is a satin dark chocolate. It retails for $16. Want something a bit different? Try Knockout Cosmetics Flatte Nail Polish in Koko. This is a chocolate brown with an unusual cement like matte finish. Retails for $19.

My favorite name from this list is Butter London’s Tramp Stamp. I remember the trampy gals in high school wearing dark brown nail color and matching lipstick. There were so many chocolate lipstick stained cigarette butts in the parking lot, LOL. My favorite shades are Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Mochachino and Sephora by OPI I’m With Brad. What’s your fave?

    1. Glad you like it. I try to cover the cheaper stuff because I feel like all the expensive, limited edition nail polishes get all the attention. Personally, I hate to pay more than $8 for a nail color because I haven’t really seen a difference in quality with the more expensive stuff. And now that I’m using the Seche Vite top coat you recommended, my polish lasts longer no matter the cost! It kept a $1 NYC on for a week without any signs of wear!

  1. Thank you for posting this. I love dark nail polishes and I don’t have a brown. I like Sinful Colors price and formula. I need to find theirs!

  2. So happy I didn’t miss this! I have been craving dark chocolate nail colors! I know everyone wants to start doing red and glitter this time of year but I like the rich, foodiness of this color. What can I say? I’m always craving chocolate!
