1960’s Fashion – Get the Makeup Look of Nancy Kwan

Nancy Kwan 1962

I love Nancy Kwan. And what a fashion icon she was! We will never forget her iconic Vidal Sassoon haircut. Here’s what I did to get a similar early 1960’s makeup look of Nancy Kwan:

FACE: Nancy’s complexion was always flawless, never heavy or “made up”. Her freckles often shown through. I have under eye circles, so I applied Covergirl Simply Ageless Concealer in Corrector and blended with a sponge. I applied a “sheer” amount of Guerlain Lingerie de Peau Foundation in Beige Clair blending with a makeup sponge. I dusted on Lancôme Color Ideal Powder in Medium 10. With a blush brush, I applied NARS Bronzer in Laguna, a light bronzer, in the hollows of my cheeks.

EYES: I filled in my brows with Benefit Brow Zings in Medium. If you want brows like Nancy’s go with Dark. I filled in brows and set them with the wax. I dotted a small amount of e.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer in Sheer and blended. On the lid, I applied NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean, a black. For the shadow, I’m using Wet n Wild ColorIcon Palette in Greed. I took the matte black shadow and applied it over the NYX pencil to “set” it. I then took the lightest matte shadow and blended it on the brow bone. I curled lashes and applied a few coats of Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara to top and bottom lashes. I then applied a set of Ardell Duralashes. If you have decent lashes, you shouldn’t need the falsies. But, I do.

LIPS: Lips are a pretty “natural” coral. I applied Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Mega Melon, a sheer medium peach. I applied a few coats of this lip balm. I’m finding that I love this formula.

I always feel like when I wear dark eye makeup, that I look dead. It’s such a huge contrast against my PNW paleness. I like this look but I think it would look better on somebody not as pale as me. I think it would look more “natural” on medium-light to dark complexions.

For a fragrance, I wanted something “classic” but not the usual feminine. So I went with Chanel Pour Monsieur EDT.  It says it’s “for the misters” but I love it as a fresh fragrance.

This weekend is supposed to be cold with “rumors” of flurries. I have no official plans. I have the usual breakfast date with the husband tomorrow morning. Oh, just remembered! I need to do the Thanksgiving meal plan! And this means that I need to the home “Thanksgiving ready”. Yikes. Time flies. Have a good weekend!

    1. Can you believe Thanksgiving is this week? It seems like it should be but at the same time it doesn’t seem like it’s almost Dec.
