1950’s Fashion – Get the Makeup Look of Mitzi Gaynor

Entertainer Mitzi Gaynor

I love, love, love this peachy perfect look of actress and dancer Mitzi Gaynor. If I had the time, I’d wear my makeup like this every day 😉 and I still wouldn’t be as fabulous as Mitzi.  Oh, and don’t you love that backdrop print in her picture? Here’s what I did to get this peaches and cream inspired 1950’s makeup look:

FACE: I evened out my complexion with Lancôme Absolue Foundation in Ecru 10. I applied with a foundation brush and then smoothed it all out with a makeup sponge. Under the eyes, I applied Covergirl Simply Ageless Concealer in Corrector with my fingers. With a powder brush, I applied Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent to set the foundation. With a blush brush, I swirled all of the colors in Covergirl Instant Cheekbones Blush in Peach Perfection, a shimmery peach, and applied high on the cheekbones. And yeah, you need a beauty mark with this look. I took my Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Medium and added a beauty mark.

EYES: Mitzi’s brows are filled in very nicely. I filled my brows in with Benefit Instant Brow Pencil in Medium. Mitzi has such a beautiful eye shape and it’s nothing like mine, so I’m trying my best here. For the eyeshadow, I’m using Physician’s Formula Baked Collection Eyeshadow in Baked Sands. I applied the lightest shade, the shimmery champagne from lash line to brows. This is my “base”. I then took the medium shade, a shimmery antique gold, and applied it “halfway”. This means that I started at the lashline and stopped where the middle of the pupil is and then went up, stopping just above the crease. On the crease and halfway on the lid, I applied the darkest shade, a shimmery dark copper. I smudged the medium shade in the trio on the bottom lash line with a sponge tip applicator. With a wet liner brush, I applied Clinique Water-Resistant Eyeliner in Muted Brown. I lined the top lash line, getting thicker towards the outer corners. I slightly winged out to give me a similiar eye shape as Mitzi’s. I curled lashes and applied a few coats of Mally Volumizing Mascara to top lashes and 2 coats to bottom lashes. I then applied Ardell false eyelashes.

LIPS: I lined lips with Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner a Tiramisu, a browned mauve. With a lip brush, I applied Clinique Different Lipstick in Think Bronze, a browned peach with bronze shimmer. This is another color that I rarely wear and now I remember that it is pretty.

And for a fragrance…I want something fruity, peachy, and ripe so that’s why I went with Boadicea the Victorious Adventuress.

I think this look is great for blondes and natural redheads. It’s a soft and pretty look that doesn’t skimp on glam.

This weekend I’m going to spend it around the house. I play hostess and tour guide next week, so I want to relax while I can. What are your plans?

  1. Absotutely gorgeous, my dear! This is wonderful on you, too. And Mitzi Gaynor had largely escaped my attention until the film Breakfast on Pluto, a must see if you haven’t yet.
