I love this makeup look of actress, singer, dancer and Broadway legend, Ruby Keeler. It’s from the 1930’s but it is still a great look for now. Here’s what I did to get this look:
FACE: I evened out my complexion with Shiseido Stick Foundation in O20 and blended with my fingers. Under the eyes, I applied MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC30 under the eyes with a concealer brush. With a sponge, I applied Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent. With a fan brush and starting at the apples, I applied Wet n Wild Coloricon Blush in Mellow Wine, a terracotta shade.
EYES: I love 30’s fashion but I hate 30’s brows. In comparison, Ruby’s aren’t so bad. I filled in my brows with Benefit Instant Brows Pencil in Medium. I applied e.l.f. Essential Eyelid Primer in Nude. With a large shadow brush, I applied Lancôme Color Desgin Eyeshadow in Positive (not pictured), a matte sand, from lash line to brows. I blended Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadow in Designer, a medium khaki green shimmer, from lash line to crease. I also lined the bottom lash line with this shade. I lined the entire top lash line with Estee Lauder Automatic Eye Pencil in Khaki. I lined the bottom water line with Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencil in Sin, a shimmery champagne. I curled lashes and applied a few coats of Estee Lauder MagnaScopic Maximum Mascara in Black to top and bottom lashes. I applied Ardell Lashes.
LIPS: I lined my natural lip line with Rimmel 1000 Kisses Lip Liner in Tiramisu, a neutral brown. I applied with a lip brush, Besame Lipstick in Merlot, a satin neutral red. I love this color.
Now for a fragrance…I’m in the mood for Clinique Aromatics Elixir, so that’s what I went with. I think it fits this look – rose & moss.
It’s supposed to be a cooler and rainy weekend. This is expected for this time of year. I need to stock up on cozy scented candles and sweater tights. What are your weekend plans? I don’t know if I have any yet. We may be going to Oregon tomorrow, we may not. I’m inspired by Ruby so maybe I’ll watch 42nd Street this weekend!

Stop being so pretty!
You, also, are one of the few people who I’d never want to see in a non-reddish lip color. They are just so flattering and perfect on you that I might have a heart attack if I see you in, say, a lavender nude lip.

For the past few years, I’ve been wearing oranges, reds, and plums on the lips. It’s what I like. I sure love to see people in beautiful, bright eyeshadows and I sure liked to buy those too. But, I’ve found out, wear what works for you.
I love bright, obnoxious makeup too but lately I’ve come to really enjoy more glamorous, put-together looks and you just do them so well.
By the way – what did you end up wearing to the DVF interview?

I love bright makeup so much.
I ended up wearing what I call the “Mad Men” dress. It’s a raw silk wiggle dress from the ’60 or ’61. It has a royal blue print. It comes with a cocktail jacket but I decided against wearing that because I look so costume-y as is. I wore it with an ugly long black cardigan, black hose and black pumps. I did my hair very early 60’s as well. Same makeup as always, bold lip. I should have the post and pics up soon.
I’m so happy I didn’t wear a wrap dress. Everyone wore the damn wrap dress. I stood out in a good way IMO.
I’m so bad at replying in a timely manner.
I cannot wait to see the pics. You are stunning, and you must have upstaged Diane 😉

Shame on you 😉
