NEST Sir Elton John’s Holiday Candle Review

Sir Elton John's Holiday Candle

It’s December! And I think this is the perfect time to start burning holiday candles. AND December 1st is World AIDS Day. I’ve been burning Sir Elton John’s Holiday Candle by NEST. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this candle will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The scent is described as a “blend of evergreen and balsam fir needles combined with rich woods and sparkling citrus accord“.

The Scent – The scent is fresh evergreen needles with a healthy dose of juicy orange. Living evergreens have this natural citrus quality to them. This evergreen candle has that. In this case, the fir has orange. And it has a naturally spicy anise scent (faint) that many living evergreens have as well. And the fresh evergreen-citrus is over smoothly polished woods. I really enjoy this smell, especially for the home. I love evergreen home scents. What surprises me is that this scent is even more “ambient” than the other NEST fragrances. This scent doesn’t get in the way. It is a scent for holiday parties and entertaining. It doesn’t fight with any other holiday scents liked baked goods or cider. And it doesn’t compete in crowded spaces.

The Formula – Like all NEST candles, this Elton John candle burns evenly and throws. I love the NEST formula. Like I said, this scent is even more ambient. It becomes the space. It doesn’t overwhelm. It really becomes a part of the home.

The Packaging – The packaging is gorgeous. The glass and the wax is an almost black regal amethyst shade. Etched on the glass is a subtle gold coat of arms inspired by a 19th century royal Luxembourg family. It’s festive without being cliché. It looks wonderful in my home. The box is beautiful too. It’s so beautiful you won’t want to put it in your recycling. The box was designed by Bernard Maisner, an internationally renowned calligrapher. Everything about this candle is a “non-traditional” beauty. It looks beautiful in my home.

It delights me that NEST and Elton John went this direction with a holiday candle. So many companies assume that everyone celebrates Christmas. And not everyone does. I feel this packaging is a wonderful gift for interfaith/mixed-faith families or for those that do not celebrate Christmas. This candle celebrates winter. I love that.

I recommend this candle for anyone that likes evergreen home scents. Or if you are looking for a “winter citrus” scent.

The Classic Candle that has an approximate burn time of 50 hours retails for $38. A 6 votive candles set is also available for $54. Both are available at Candles Off Main.

    • No. I just like them because they are a small family owned business. This candle is also available at Bergdorf’s and Neiman Marcus.
It’s limited edition which I dislike because I could smell this candle year round!

  1. I totally agree! I love this candle and the alternative angle they took on Holiday. Anything Elton John is always stand-out and slightly shocking in a fantastic way and this candle continues that tradition in the Elton John home fragrance story. I’d buy this candle for the gorgeous vessel alone (they had me at aubergine and fancy gold crown) but the fragrance is also divine.

    • I fell for the color too. It’s so beautiful and I have this shade in my house already. I love deep, rich jewel tones.
And the scent really works with my home. It’s a smell that blends in a good way.
