More 1950’s Fashion: Get The Makeup Look of Ursula Thiess

April 1954

I love Ursula’s look on this Photoplay cover. It is such a timeless makeup look. It’s all about a flawless complexion and luscious lips. I also find her hair worn down very sexy. Many of the pictures of early 1950’s starlets feature their hair curled and worn up. This look really works with many complexions but it looks really amazing on warm skintones with brunette or black hair. To get this timeless look:

FACE: For skin this flawless, most people will need to apply a primer first. Apply a primer such Smashbox Photo Finish Targeted Pore & Liner Primer with your fingertips. With a foundation brush apply a liquid foundation. One of my favorites is L’Oreal True Match Liquid Makeup. If concealer is needed, apply now. Covergirl Fresh Complexion Concealer is a versatile concealing product. Apply a pressed powder such as L’Oreal True Match Pressed Powder with a sponge. With a fluffy blush brush apply a warm rusty bronze shade to cheeks such as Rimmel Finish Powder Blush in Winter Glow (swirl the shades together).

EYES: Brows are full and natural. Set unruly brows with a clear brow gel such as The Body Shop Brow & Lash Gel. Apply pressed powder on a sponge to eye lids. This evens out the tone and absorbs oil. This is a very “fresh” and nude eye makeup look. Apply in the corner of the eye and on the bottom water line, a frosty white liner such as NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Cottage Cheese. Blend with fingertips. This shimmery pale liner will make the eyes look wide awake and fresh. In the crease apply with a fluffy blending shadow brush a shimmery brown shade such as Milani Powder Eye Shadow in Sun Goddess (not pictured). Blend. Line the top lash line with a black eyelienr such as NYX Long Pencil Eyeliner in Black. Curl lashes and apply a few coats of mascara to top and bottom lashes. I would use a curling mascara such as Lancome Courbe Virtuose Mascara in Black.

LIPS: Lips should be well moisturized so that the color goes on smoothly. Line lips with a rusty lip liner such as Lipstick Queen Lip Liner in Rust. Apply Milani Color Perfect Lipstick in Bonfire straight from the tube. Blot on a tissue. Apply a small amount of a shimmery copper lip gloss to a lip brush. I love the formula of Milani Buzzy Worthy Lip Gloss in Bee Bold. Apply to the center of bottom lip. “Pop” lips together and blot on a tissue.

This sexy look needs to be paired with a sexy fragrance such as FM Editions de Parfums Musc Ravageur Parfum Oil. Tussle up that hair and you’re ready to go out or stay in 🙂

I’ve been recovering from one heck of a cold this week so that’s why I’m not including my version of the look. I love this Milani Bonfire lipstick, so maybe one day I’ll swatch it for you guys. Hope you have a great weekend! I feel  like I could sleep for 48 hours!
