February 2017 Lowbuy Update – I’m such a cheater. I ended up buying a “bundle” of Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks which were Buy 3 for $45. I always gripe about liquid lipsticks but for some reason I wanted the new shades. The swatches were just too darn pretty. FYI – they have done something to the formula. Two of the shades were very comfortable (the new ones) and one of the older colors, Dolce, was very uncomfortable I looked at the ingredients and they vary immensely. Word to the wise, try before you buy.
For Valentine’s, David tried to be sweet and bought me makeup (he pities me during my low-buy). It was four Rituel de Fille lipsticks in shades “that really look like something you’d wear”. Well, they should look like something I’d wear because I wear those four shades every week! So, yeah, he bought four shades of lipsticks that I already owned (See, I have issues). I returned them. My rain check was for The Ordinary skincare which I received in March.
February’s empties are totally random. You can really tell I’m going through crap and purging what I can. This is such a random collection of stuff. I’m trying to buy less and enjoy more in 2017.
I was very close to emptying full-sizes but I made them last into March. I did use up a few sheet masks.
Glyderm Gentle Face Cleanser – I’m only on team low pH now. This isn’t a wash for everyone since it’s runny and non-foaming but I like it. I swear my cystic acne has improved because of using gentle cleansers.
- Repurchase? I already have! I bought back-ups in December.
Garden of Wisdom Hyaluronic Acid Serum in Blueberry Fruit – This is a very lightweight HA serum that smells like blueberries and has a faint blue tint. These may not be the “best” (meaning “heavy duty”) HA serums that I’ve used but I love them. I like being able to choose from a list of antioxidants. I like how this layers with other products in my routine. It’s not a stand alone product (no HA serum is) but it plays so nicely with other products.
- Repurchase? Yes. I love using this in the summer.
- Purchase? Yes.
The Face Shop Real Nature Peony Sheet Mask – I usually dislike The Face Shop’s masks. This one is an exception. It’s an oil serum mask that smells like a fancy Hermès EDT.
- Repurchase? I think so.
Neutrogena Fine Fairness Sheet Mask – I totally forgot that I had one of these left. It’s one of my favorite cheapie sheet masks.
- Repurchase? Yes.
Skinfood Beauty in a Food Mask Snail Sheet Mask – This is a sheet mask that mainly the French side of me was like “buy the snail food mask”. It’s your typical snail serum mask. It’s actually pretty darn good for something so cheap.
- Repurchase? Yes.
BioBelle #Stay Gorgeous Sheet Mask – The ingredients of this one sounded promising for my dry skin (almond oil and vitamin E). But, it did nothing for my skin other than leave it sticky. It doesn’t really have a fragrance so that’s good, I guess.
- Repurchase? No.I have used $1 masks that were much better.
Hey Pinkgo Girl! Brightening White Yogurt Lifting Lace Mask – Let’s be real, this exists for the novelty. It’s a stretch lace that you wear over your ears. It’s actually sort of drying for my skin because the lace is thick and doesn’t help with the serum’s absorption.
- Repurchase? No. But, hey, it’s fun. It’s more a novelty product than a skincare product.
Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone Eye Cream (travel size) – I really loved the feel of this product but I wish it came in a pump. It did leave my eye area smooth and made concealer look excellent.
- Purchase? I would if it came in different packaging.
La Colline Moisture Boost Cellular Perfect Hydration Serum (travel size) – If I were filthy rich, I’d slather my face in all the Swiss shit. This is a fragrant moisture serum that makes my skin glow. Mixed with foundation, it leaves my skin like “Whoa, like who is this glowing rich lady?”
- Purchase? I wish.
The Saem Gem Miracle Black Pearl Bubble Mask (sample) – How weird is this stuff?! It was actually fun to use but too drying for me. I may buy a bottle for summer just for the novelty.
- Purchase? Maybe.
I’m taking the Dave Ramsey “debt snowball” approach and applying it to fragrance samples. Empty the samples with the lowest amount of product left.
Satya Sai Baba Nag Champa Incense – It’s what home should smell like.
- Repurchase? Yes.
NEST Candle in Tahiti Vanille – It’s a sweet vanilla. Review here. It doesn’t matter how much you pay for a vanilla-scented candle; they will also have discolored wax.
- Purchase? No. I’m tired of vanilla.
Tokyo Factory Soy Candle in Japanese Yuzu – It’s a a votive in a French yogurt container. Smells like citrus.
- Repurchase? No. It’s no longer available for purchase.
DSH Perfumes Iridum EDT (sample) – This is a dusty iris inspired by Ancient Egypt. It really is like an iris found in a tomb.
- Purchase? No. Or maybe yes. I really do like it.
DSH Perfumes DAWN Sweet Dreams EDP (sample) – It a sweet, dreamy lavender. It’s a great “bed time” scent.
- Purchase? No.
- Purchase? No. Like I said, I’m currently so sick of vanilla.
- Purchase? Nope.
- Purchase? I’ve thought about it but there are others from the line that I prefer.
- Purchase? If I for some reason get in my head that I need a great sandalwood, I’ll buy this.
Nez a Nez L’Etre Reve EDP (sample) – It’s boozy woods and spices. Really nice stuff.
- Purchase? Nope.
More of the “cleaning out the cabinets” collection.
Soap Distillery Body Oil in Elderflower Liqueur – I love the smell of this stuff so much. It’s like waxy, citrus florals (like honeysuckle). Plus, the blend of natural oils is absolutely my favorites for skin/hair.
- Repurchase? Yes!
Historiae Soap in Bouquet du Trianon – It was Valentine’s Day. I wanted a heart-shaped soap. It smells like musk and white florals, think along the lines of Narciso Rodriguez but with more tuberose.
- Repurchase? No. It’s not my favorite scent from the line.
De La Cruz Arnica Salve – I use this on my hands at night. The aroma of benzoin and spearmint reminds me of some sort of cola flavor that would be popular in the Deep South in the early 1900’s. It’s a greasy salve good enough for farmer great uncles so it’s good enough for me.
- Repurchase? Probably. It’s not a staple but it’s something I buy out of nostalgia.
Kopari Coconut Crush Scrub (travel size) – This is warm tropical gourmand scented scrub in a coconut oil base. It’s super moisturizing which means it’s also hazardous in the shower. It leaves the tub all sorts of slippery. It’s almost impossible to get the product out of the tube in the winter. But, it does feel good on the skin.
- Purchase? No.
- Repurchase? No. There’s other scents from the line that I prefer more.
It was a very slow month for emptying hair products.
FAR Botanicals Day One Gentle Clarifying Cleanser – I absolutely love this stuff. It’s the only clarifying cleanser I’ve used that doesn’t dry out my hair and scalp. It’s fancy liquid mud that smells like cedar and lavender.
- Purchase? YES!
Paul Mitchell Keratin Intense Treatment (travel size) – I have never tried keratin shampoo/conditioners but I honestly do think this smoothed my hair. I like the fragrance. Maybe all keratin conditioners are this good, I don’t know.
- Purchase? I probably should.
It was an even slower month for emptying makeup.
Bare Minerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow in Soft Linen – I like to use this as an eyeshadow base since it evens out the color on the lid while providing some SPF 15 protection. I had no issues with this flaking or being too dry. My only complaint is that it’s hard to get the product out of the container as it starts to empty. As you can see, it sticks to the side and all of that stuff is dry and you don’t want it if you could get it out.
- Repurchase? Maybe. I’m currently using the Benefit primer with SPF.
Total: 29. 15 Full-Size. 6 Travel/Deluxe Sample. 8 Samples
It sounds like a lot of empties, but it’s not. It was mostly sheet masks and totally random perfume samples. I feel like I’m really “cleaning house”.
What about you? Which products did you empty in February? Did you buy anything new?
